Help?? I think the Ans is C, they say E. Why?

42 A cutlery drawer is divided into compartments. The 'knife' compartment contains six gold
knives and six silver knives. The 'fork' compartment contains six gold forks and six silver
    forks.
What are the least numbers of knives and forks that must be removed from the drawer in
the dark to guarantee having a gold knife and matching fork?
A Three knives and three forks
B Six knives and six forks
C Seven knives and one fork
D Seven knives and six forks
E Seven knives and seven forks
So if you take seven of each, you know you must have at least 1 gold one, as there are only six silver ones

because to be sure of getting a gold fork, 7 need to be taken out as 6 could be silver
Dont we already have 7 knives? Thus both gold and silver knives are present, so wouldnt we just need one fork since either colour would do?

They need both to be gold - that's the key

same here. okay, so in the 7 knives we have, we have at least one gold and one silver knive. so when we pick the first fork, either gold or silver, it should match with the knives we already have?? unless you're saying...why do they both need to be gold again?

Depends on how many good ones I can think of, and how much time I have left after planning.

Just over an hour left before the test

This thread is now closed for discussion until 30th November. Cambridge Assessment have asked us to delay exam discussion further due to more postponements of people taking the tests in Thailand and the USA. We apologise for having to close the thread again, and thank you for your co-operation.

Oh! thank you for the rep whoever you all are

Just a reminder that results are out in 10 days and that if you'll need to register between now and then

    Here is the link

Also, it seems to only work on Internet Explorer and Firefox. I tried using Safari and Chrome and it says invalid birth date.

I'm really looking forward to results since I think they are really bad (I was ill) but I still have a place.. Would be funny to have a place with a TSA score of 55 or something like that

In the same boat! I applied for E&M at St Peters if it means anything. :dontknow:
I want to find out that I did phenomenally well on the TSA test, and then i want to appeal, and then I want St Peters College to re-review my application, and then invite me for an interview, and then give me my (well-deserved) offer.
Hey, we can all dream can't we?!
