Re: Nursing Applicants 2012 intakeThank you for this :-), I live in Docnaster (near Sheffield) so I'll be catching the train, so this is useful to know so I can consider the train times. I was also hoping it wouldn't be a long time, as that would just make me feel more nervous!(Original post by xxAuraliaxx)
Your very welcome
I think it lasted about half an hour, but goes very quickly, i subscribe to the nursing times but they have loads of articles on there website that you could have a look at (nursingtimes.net), if you get neverous remember they already like you, thats why they are giving you an interview, just show they who you are!
I'll have a look on the website, but now I've looked, does it have to be a very recent article? and would they favour anything in particular! Oh i'm too nervous!
You've been a gem, thank you once more! -

Finally! I have an interview at the university of Lincoln on the 12th January! Anyone had one and can tell me what to expect?
Thats alright,
When you arrive you wait for a little bit in the reception after giving in your papers, then one of the student nurses comes and collects you and you go to an interview room, the interviewers consist of a student nurse and 2 lectures with community experience, they go around and each ask you a bunch of questions (there were quite alot) things like... why do you want to be a nurse? what qualities should a nurse possess? what tasks would you be carrying out as a nurse? how can you tell when your stressed and what would you do to relax? what do you know about the course? tell me about an article regarding health care you have read recently, and a buch more i cant remember lol
Advice wise id say read up on the course, let them know you know its alot of work whilst showing your ability to succeed, make sure you know your reasoning for being a nurse and can be passionate about it, try not to be too nervous they're very nice and want you to as relaxed as possible so they can see the real you, read up on a specific article so you can give some detail into it, dont worry if you need to take a sec to breath an compose your self, i get nervous so had to do this a few times, in situation quesions, make sure your first thought is how safe is the patient, what are there needs, if they ask something along the lines of what would you do if x happens, remember that every situation is different and you wont know what exactly you'd do without being there..... JUST RELAX and BE YOURSELF, see the interview as someone giving you a chance to show them how great you know you are, not as test, oh and re-read your personal statement
I picked DMU because for one thing my cousin studies nursing there and loves it, its a nice big town and i come from a tiny village so im looking forward to the change, lincoln is a lovely uni and i would have been perfectly happy there, i just felt more at home at dmu you know when a place is for you!
I wish you luck, hope you do as mavolously as you deserve to!
This is the information I was given from another lovely user :-). -

Really don't worry about the tests, they are easy. Some unis give examples on their webpages e.g. KCL http://www.kcl.ac.uk/nursing/study/a...ays/tests.aspx
Thought a couple of mine were a little more difficult but I don't think they expect you to get 100%.
The Adult Nursing applicants had another piece of reading, but what we were given really just enabled us to discuss things in some related areas in the group discussion. I found the BBC news/health website really useful too.
I actually really enjoyed the process, thought I would hate it as I hate speaking in public but everyone is nervous and the admissions tutors certainly take that into consideration.
So, so pleased I'm at Southampton, it was always my first choice and is proving a good decision.
Good luck!
