x:smile:

Yayyy thats so exciting...BCU is great good luck....I will be applying to one up north and the rest here in London. Fingers crossed i am so nervous. What are your predicted grades? Are you doing Health and Social care? Im kind of worried about the lack of experience i have in hospitals ...but lets see what happens. I am also writing my personal statement at the moment, I am aiming to send off everything before the end of the month, what about you ? Oh and i was having a look at Bham but i got a bit confused because they have lots of courses listed under adult nursing :s xxx

Hi ..... im planning on applying to nursing but im predicted CCC for A2 might end up with BCC though do you think ill even get any offers =S reading other peoples grades on here im starting to think i have no chance........:erm:

Do you know where you are planning on applying to and for what branch of nursing?

Please don't get yourself worried about this! Just because your grades are predicted at that it doesn't mean that's what you'll get, you've got plenty of time to stick your head down and get on with your studying  you could end up with AAA or CCC; they'll be what you make of them lovey so just do your best and make sure your personal statement does you great justice!

If all else fails there is always clearing  but have a look into the uni's you're interested in and maybe give their admissions department a ring and see how strict they are on entry requirements. Some universities will accept your AS level or General Studies to make up the points so it's well worth enquiring...

Hello all, I'm new to the Nursing threads

I'm applying for Adult Nursing this year and have the following Universities in mind:
Southampton - Adult & Child
Surrey - Adult
Bournemouth - Adult

Does anyone know of any good teaching Universities for Nursing in the South? Preferably not London though?

Good luck everyone  What grades/work experience do you all have?
I'm also applying for Southampton for adult nursing. Aswell as East Anglia, manchester, leeds and Ulster. A random mix but i've researched them all and they all look great, but southampton is my main choice!

I'm doing an access course at the mo so wont get my grades until next year. I work in a care home at the moment and live with my elderley grandad so I have quite a lot of relevent experience! Just finally finished my personal statement, which I thought I would never finish. Just having it proof read and then my application is being sent woo....

Good luck everyone x

Yeah I'm really interested in the Southampton course - mainly because it does both Adult and Child nursing which is good! Surrey is my second choice

I agree, I am trying to find 3 with higher grades needed/better teaching and using 2 with lower grades just incase!

What access course are you doing?

Oh wow! You've got some excellent experience then.. My work experience is:

- Volunteer at a District Hospital for 2 years almost in Trauma and Orthopaedics (elderly)
- 1 week at a hospital in Gynaecology and Day-Theatre shadowing a nurse
- 1 week in a community hospital shadowing nurses and doctors in clinics such as Diabetes, Retinotherapy, Physiotherapy, GP appointments, Ward rounds ect
- Full time Pharmacy Assistant at the same District Hospital currently which allows me to transport CD's (Controlled drugs) to the different wards/departments where I work with the Nurses and healthcare professionals

- Life experiences: Type 1 diabetic for 11 years :frown: and want to specialise in Diabetes later on  My mum has MS also so I've been a carer since I was young..

Good luck with your application

Southampton is amazing, I'm loving it. They brought A and C in late last year and asked for those who held offers to apply for it. There were only about 12 places.

I had volunteer experience in a children's hospice, a school for special needs, a holiday club for the severely disabled, OT with the local hospital out in the community, a movement class for disable kids in a local primary school and other general volunteer work.
What about Brighton? Great placements.

Are there more places for the course now then?

What academics do you have (if you don't mind me asking?)

You had some really applicable work experience too! No wonder you got a place

I don't really like Brighton as an area.. I'm considering Kingston at the moment even though it's quite close to London, it's not too close..

Decisions, decisions!

Also just a quick question:
I've been trying to research the modules involved with the nursing degree and there actually isn't much about it!

Do you do clinical training i.e. taking blood, canulisation ect? If so, at Southampton do you use the Clinical Skills lab and what year did you start doing this?

Thanks!

I've no idea if there will be more places for 2012, you'd have to ask the Faculty of Health Sciences.
I got in with A levels in Sociology, Psychology and Photography.
With regards to the details on the course, I don't know yet, I've only been there a month. We go out on our first placements after Christmas. Our first year is interprofessional which is great as we mix with all the other branches.
Not much help really at this stage.

Brighton was my insurance and I would have been based at Eastbourne. What about either Oxford Brookes, Hertfordshire or Canterbury CC?

I've applied for children's nursing but i'm probably an old dodderer compared to you lot :colondollar: i just turned 22 yesterday

A-Levels:
Psychology - B
Sociology - B
English Literature - B

I've applied to:
Edge Hill
Salford
Manchester (adult nursing - not got the grades to do children's :frown:)
Lanchashire
Cheshire

Edge Hill is my first choice  i've not got much in the way of experience - at the minute i work as a receptionist at a Dr's surgery so the most in the way of my experience is CPR training, Safeguarding Children and Carer's Champion. I also chaperone the nurse for the children's immunisation clinics. I know i'm not a very good candidate for it but at least i'm trying and if i don't get in for Sept 2012 i'll keep going until i do get in somewhere haha.

Oh and i sent my UCAS applications off on the 16th September. Has anyone had word back from their choices yet?

I know how you feel, I'm 22 as well!!

OMG, for cardiff's adult nursing?! Did they tell you that? Have you started now? Hope you're enjoying it if you have! I can't wait 'til March now!
Wow, you have loads more experience. How did you get all that experience, if you don't mind me asking? I sent off an application for volunteering within the NHS but haven't recieved a reply. I'm assuming thats also competitive volunteering

I sent my application off yesterday, so fingers crossed i get a reply from southampton....

You'll have to let me know if you get a reply back from southampton and vice versa.!

It's not about quantity, it's about quality. There is no point in having loads of experience if you don't learn anything from it.. If you learn from your experience than it's enough

I just spent a lot of time contacting hospitals, GP surgeries ect and asked them really (although getting a voluntary position in a hospital is not as easy as it sounds i.e. CRB check, interview, ID and so on)

You are better off doing a spider diagram about the work experience you already have - draw out the positive and negative things you found out about the role of a nurse and how your qualities and experience match the role

If you rush around trying to find experience for the sake of having more experience, in an interview it will definitely show!

Oh excellent.. are you enjoying it?

Yes definitely   I haven't sent my application off yet but getting to it just finishing my PS and waiting for my reference really...

Have you heard anything yet? Where are you applying too?
