Re: Working at Nextit depends on the store manager, our manager wears jeans but makes all other staff wear formal..(Original post by damilola)
err just wondering are we allowed to wear jeans? cos i'm starting work on monday and the manager was wearing jeans today but i thought we could only wear trousers

Re: Working at NextI'm a sales temp.(Original post by Shuvel)
You collect your payslip from the office, except if you're a sales temp and then it'll be mailed to you. And for tax did you not fill out a P46 on your induction? You should get a letter from HM Revenue giving you a tax code, and you'll get a cheque back later in the year.
I did fill out a P46 and give them my bank details but they never even put them on the system so I got a cheque
I doubt they have sorted out the P46 properly!
I got an answer phone message today from Toys R Us asking if I'm still looking for work, I'm going to ring tomorrow and see if it's better than what I'm doing at the moment, I really want to leave after a month!
My contract says one week notice before 3 months, will they be pissed off if I leave after such a short time?

Re: Working at NextApparently Temp staff have to wear all black and perm can wear seasonal stuff. Not sure if it's the same for your store.(Original post by damilola)

Re: Working at Next
Just applied again then. Been through about 4 job applications, not really tried hard though up until now (no supporting statement on the other ones, absolute mistake!) but really quite confident about this one now. Spent ages writing the supporting statement about my volunteer work and relating it all to working for Next
.
We'll just have to wait and see I suppose. -
Re: Working at Nextbefore i got my job as well i only had experience working for a charity shop for 6 months. Just be confident and if u have a group interview, make sure u speak - even if u say the same thing as the someone else. Also, interact with the people in your group.(Original post by Floraa)
I'm applying for a christmas temp at next.
The only retail experience I have is a charity shop so I doubt I'll get it.
Does anyone have any tips for the application/interview?? -

Don't worry about the experience, I had none when I applied and still got the job. They seem to base a lot of it on how you come across at the interview.
For the interview make a big fuss on how 'customer service is so important etc' as a company, customer service is really important!
All interviews seem to be slightly different but mine was a group interview with about 8 other people, we were taken to a room where we all had a discussion about what is good, not so good - make sure you put up your opinions but also listen and comment on others opinions. Then we were taken down to the shop floor and told to pick one item that we like and then were taken back upstairs and told to explain how you would 'sell' it. I took up a pair of shoes as there was a like a poster explaining how great value they were and how they were a 'new look'.
Sorry I've just babbled on a bit.
Good luck

Re: Working at Next
I was offered a christmas temp job recently and was told my induction would be on the 26th of October, because of this i decided i would go visit my sister the weekend of the 22nd as it would be my last opportunity to do so for a while. However i got a phone call yesterday saying my induction had moved to the 20th, that's fine but i'm now worried that they may want me to work over the weekend which i can't do as i'm already busy. Would it just be okay to explain that my induction had been moved from the following week and therefore i had booked something to do that weekend?!

Re: Working at NextNope, in my store we've been told our uniform should take us up until christmas. There's a bit of a rush to get all the new starts uniform sorted right now anyway.(Original post by amiejade-x)
does anyone know if we get new uniform allowance because of the face change in the store?
Oh and Surfers are back folks... -
Re: Working at NextTell me about it! At mine its at least once an hour (without exaggeration) and everyone is saying it is driving them mad! I think its so that it links to the advert and the idea that people can order items by 9pm and get next day delivery. Someone somewhere probably thinks that playing the song will encourage people to do that(Original post by BlackThunder10)
why is it that of the shopfloor Next play the 'advert song' every minute, Im so freaking tired of it all ready -
Re: Working at Next
That advert song was on 3 times within the first hour of my shift the other day, so annoying aha.
I was wondering whether anyone would be able to explain about the staff discount card. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and I've yet to use it since they make it all sound a bit scary in the letter that comes with it haha.
Can I use the discount in any next store? Not just the one I work in? And how does the discount work for members of your family? My sister in law is hoping to use the discount when she buys a load of clothes for my neice. Is the discount only allowed on a certain amount of clothing in one transaction?
Sorry for the questions just confused, never had an employee discount card before, haha -

Re: Working at Nexthey, you won't need to tell your manager should be updated itself and uniform is after the sale now, so in january(Original post by Smiile)
Im turning 18 soon so im entitled to adult pay do i tell the manager or will thet already know. Also when are we going to get our next uniform allowance?
I doubt they have sorted out the P46 properly!
