I've got my interview tomorrow, aaaah.

From what I've read, a lot of people found their interviews quite easy, so hopefully it'll be the same for me. I think I'm well prepared enough.

I'm starting to worry about what I'm wearing, though. I've read on here that quite a lot of people wore something fairly casual to their interviews. I was planning on just wearing black trousers, a white blouse and maybe a black blazer. Now I'm thinking that sounds too formal and maybe not fashionable enough. Do you think I should change something? Maybe wear a different top, or a cardigan instead of a blazer? :-/ I don't know.
It is easy if you are well prepared.

But i would try to dress smart if you can.

Well I just finished my interview and I think it went okay. It was pretty informal, and we did it in the staff room and there were a few other people around, eating their lunch and stuff which was a bit awkward. :-/ I can barely remember what she asked me now. xD One of them was asking what I'd do in a situation where a customer was deciding between two shoes and wanted my opinion, so I said that I'd ask them what they needed the shoe for to decide which was more appropriate and then give them my honest opinion about which one I liked best. I hope that was a good answer. It just occurred to me that I could have told her to buy both. :P

She said they'd make a decision on Monday, and if I don't get a phone call by about 4:30 then I should assume I haven't been successful.

I have this Molecular Science thingy at UCL on Monday and I finish at 4. My shift starts at 4...so should I tell my manager on sunday (as I'm working then) or shall I do something about it on the Next NEP thingy? I'm confused lol. It's only my second week though so I dunno if they'll allow me? :/

    Re: Working at Next
So as I said earlier, I had my Next interview today. I'll find out if I got the job on Monday and if I do get it, my induction is on Thursday.

But right after I got home from my Next interview I got a phonecall from Waterstones saying that they want to give me an interview. And to be perfectly honest, I'd rather work there than at Next. So now I don't know what to do. My interview there is on Tuesday, and I probably won't find out the result of it until after the Next induction.

The Waterstones job is only for 1 day a week, so I could work at both. But I've already told Next that I'm fully flexible and can work whenever they want, so will they be annoyed if I change that? I'm pretty sure it was one of the reasons they were even interested in me in the first place. Does anyone have experience of having another job while working at Next? Would they be cool with it or not?

This is all assuming I somehow manage to get both jobs, which isn't likely. But I like to worry myself sometimes.

    Re: Next Jobs
I got a phone call on monday asking about holidays, when i'm available, was everything on my application etc correct. This was all already on my form so I'm not sure why they phoned to ask whenever they didn't offer an interview maybe they'll get back to me but if they do then they're taking their time.

So it does look like I had the right answers, enough for them to show some interest at least.

HI A Sales Consultant position has opened in the store I reaaaaaaally want to work in. Its like 5 mins near me so it's perfect. I've applied to next about ~10x before and each time it was because I answered the questionnaire wrong. Now I am desperate to get this job and determined not to answer it wrong. If anyone who got an interview would be able to help me with it and tell me what they answered? I will PM you and will be soooo grateful. (p.s. For people who have interviews coming up; good luck guys!)

I signed my contract yesterday and today double checked my contract and my address postcode was wrong. I have updated it on the employee portal and got a confirmation email but Im pretty sure I wouldn't make that mistake, unless they read my writing wrong, but do I need to call the store and let them know? Im just worried about being paid, but on my p46 it was correct, so I could mention it when I go in cause we get paid on the 26th, so they could always amend it? Or does it come from head office and my details are alright now? I don't have a shift for 2 weeks and its kind of far away so I wont really want to have to go in to sign the contract again. Thanks

    Re: Next - Office Assistant
There is every chance you could get the sales consultant job if you do well in an interview. Just talk about any customer experience you have and they will give you an item and you have to pick things to go with it.

I had this job and have just got a transfer to an office assisstant position in another store. In the interview for this they asked what i am doing, (uni, currently work at next, previous experience etc) and then asked what I thought the job entailed, it is IMPORTANT you read the job descrip. on the vacancy website so you can answer this!

The other comment is a bit unfair because I dont have that much office experience, I have done voluntary work experience at a solicitors office and other offices but not a proper job, although I have 5 years customer service and retail experience so it is easy for me to blab on

Should be fine if you updated it on the NEP, but it wouldn't do any harm if you mentioned it to the admin staff, who can double check on the system. No rush though, it won't affect being paid.

you get an allowance of £75 for an 8 hour contract..
I've just started at Next and they told me that the uniform allowance for temps has changed. Something realllly confusing about only having certain tops to choose from and paying £4.50 for them. I hope you're right though, I'd much rather have the £75

The line of neg reps on this page.

Had a phone call to arrange an interview today. Thought it was a foregone conclusion the moment it started really. Trick is i think to make a good first impression. Dress well, look smart, be confident. Boom. Induction Monday now.

Going to look through this thread now and see what people seem to think of working at Next. Been given a contract of 4 hours a week initially on a Saturday. The manager said they will increase and differ from week to week probably. It's quite a big store. Anyone know what getting shifts like at Next is. Want to get as much hours as possible really. Is induction paid too?

There will be a sheet on the wall of the staffroom with your hours on, make sure you check it, you may be assigned for extra hours without any direct notification. I was not told about this when I joined and got a record card (their equivalent of a three strike system) for missing a shift I didn't know about. Apart from that, good luck and I hope you enjoy your time at Next more than I did.

Hi there, well on my first day I went to the menswear till (as that is where I am allocated to work), and told them that it was my first day. Each department has its own supervisor, so basically that person helps you for the day for example he helped me to clock in (because I forgot how to) and he went through some basic health and safety rules. After that, he just told me to start tidying up, making sure the shop floor is tidy e.g putting clothes in order of sizes, very simple tasks.

Don't stress about it, because they WILL help you. It is your first day, you are not expected to know what to do, but eventually you will get the hang of it
