Re: Working at NextBut what's the point in putting yourself alongside others in terms of your appearance if you can so easily make yourself stand out?(Original post by InadequateJusticex)
As far as I know, the other successful applicants I was with on my induction did not wear a tie. Yes you're right, interviewers love to see people who take pride in their appearance, but a tie isn't necessary. This is Next we're talking about, not a huge office company or whatever... Besides, it also depends on the job he's applying to. I'm guessing he's not going for a manager position so a suit is kinda redundant.
General turnout and clothing the interviewee wears is something we look at when interviewing, so a suit is by no means redundant. Furthermore, especially during sales periods (i.e. now) we interview a lot of people at once, and all the interviews in the end merge into one in your head (hence the need to make notes). Would you rather be, "That lad who wore the smart suit?" or "That lad with brown hair....no not the one with the glasses....the other one, yeah, him."
Your choice. -
Re: Working at NextBusinesswear must be worn by male staff, what you list sounds fine(Original post by Greggors)
I start work on Saturday as a sales assistant, what will i be expected to wear on my first shift, i went out and bought a couple slim fit shirt and tie sets from Next and i already have grey trousers and shoes. Would a slim fit white shirt with a black or navy tie and grey trousers be okay if im working on the menswear department? im a 17 year old male and was just wondering as ive seen males wearing jeans and other stylish things?
Thanks
Jeans must not be worn, and any half decent store management would discipline any staff who turn up at work dressed inappropriately...unless they're doing work in the stockroom and have just popped onto the floor for whatever reason. -
Re: Working at NextI haven't got any nice clothes to wear at my first shift on Saturday, what would you suggest i do? Shall i buy something from Next? But don't i get allowance if i wait? But i also want to look smart.(Original post by Aaaaaaaargh!)

Also i had my induction yesterday. I decided to go mostly smart, but with dark jeans. Felt fine. The guy had a suit on, looked proper smart. And the girl was quite smart too wearing black clothes. So boring though, the video of stealing was so long winded especially. So boring. But it's all paid so cool. First shift Saturday. Only contracted for those 4 hours. When should i expect more hours to appear? And i assume checking online is all good on NEP?
Erratic, i did get your PM but i believe all your answers have been answered. As smart as pos does the trick. I mean, i did shirt, black trousers and a causal zipped blue hoody. I was going to take it off for the interview but i felt i looked smart enough with it on really and didn't feel the need to take it off. -
Re: Working at NextSurely the whole point of an interview is to show how you're the best person for the job, not to demonstrate that you look extremely smart in a suit. Yes, appearance plays a part in getting the job but it is not the major role and never will be (obviously for most jobs..). So as long as you wear the minimum thing expected (shirt, smart trousers, etc) then what else you wear does not matter. The main purpose of the interview is to let the employer know if the person is worth hiring based on their responses, not their way of dressing. But I see your point.(Original post by Aaaaaaaargh!)

Re: Working at Nextwho told you this?(Original post by SomethingWeird)
Has anyone else heard the news about them getting rid of our uniform allowance to cut their costs?!! :| We already get rubbish discount as it is and now they're getting rid of our uniform allowance?! What perk of the job do we have left?! -
Re: Working at NextAnyone???(Original post by gunit123)
I've been invited to an induction in a couple of days - without having an interview. I'm a bit unsure as to whether I might have an interview on that day or not.
Has anyone been offered the job without an interview? Does anyone think it is a bit strange? -
Re: Working at NextThis is illegal, under 18s are entitled to 12 hours rest between shifts and over 18s are entitled to 11 hours rest(Original post by sofee)
Who's as horrified at their sale hours as me? I finish at 10pm on Friday and start at 4:45 on Saturday...I could cry! I'm glad I got the early shift cos it means I don't have to stay around to tidy up but still, a decent nights sleep beforehand would have been nice! -

I guess it just depends on the store and job.
Induction didn't have an interview; store tour, a bit about the job and a health & safety video

Re: Working at Nextat Christmas...was contracted for about 3 weeks I think, and this sale I have no idea yet! still waiting for a call about when I start(Original post by gunit123)
Thanks - what was the duration of your temp jobs?
probably about the same though I should think.
I think some people get their contracts extended though, depending on what the store needs etc

Re: Working at NextNo sadly(Original post by kenanandkel)
Guys you know in the Next 50 percent sale, do the staff even more discount?
-
Re: Working at NextNot if you do it voluntarily. I did the same last year, worked til 1115 and was back in at 5am til 1. It was hell on the feet but red bull got me thorugh. I'd rather do that on sale because it's so busy and goes so quickly.(Original post by alexlemon2)

who told you this?

I'm not buying it until there is an official announcement, either in the company magazine or online. Surely this sort of change would require a changing of contracts, as I think it details it in there and we would be, at least informed of the change, if not having to sign off on it.
Regarding sale hours, I finish at 23:00 the day before and have to come back for a 05:00 - 12:00 shift on the Saturday. The handbook mentions being paid more any hours you work after 22:00, does that mean we will get the additional pay or is it just contracted hours during those hours? I think the handbook either says pay + 1/3 or 1/4.Last edited by Patrik; 04-07-2012 at 11:43. -
Re: Working at Next
So.. I was talking to my aunt and she said I'd get the job without an interview and that's exactly what happened.. a phone call after 10 minutes confirming I got the job at Next. Induction day on Friday
Unbelievable!
I work on the sale dates, does anyone know whether they'd ask you to work after the sale?
Also, does it matter if I work at two branches? I have an interview with another branch tomorrow (which isn't for the sale).
P.S. I'd like to thank you all for your support. You've all been great! <3
P.P.S You don't have to wear those "SALE NOW ON" T-shirts do you?Last edited by Erratic; 04-07-2012 at 12:00. -
Re: Working at NextJust ask! The worst he can say is no.(Original post by kenanandkel)
I am only working 4 hours on the day off the summer sale, I was just wondering do you think I could ask the manager if I work more hours? Has anyone done that? Or would that not be allowed?
How many hours are you working in that retail week, Sun-Sat?

Unbelievable!
