University course discussion for Pharmacy.

Re: pharmacy applicants 2012hello.. I am in the same predicament... my predictions are that I will get A in psychology, B in chemistry but will get a C in biology :/ and I have firmed UCLan(Original post by windo)
Do you think UClan will still let me do the pharmacy course even if I miss the offer by one grade? They gave me a offer of ABB, i might not get that, i will probably get ABC, will they still let me do the course? -
Re: pharmacy applicants 2012No.(Original post by azeem riaz)
hey people
do you think the uni's will look at your gcse's grades because i got a C in both english and maths?
You've passed them both, and that's the minimum requirements for all unis!
With regards to your grades, some unis might ask for an A in maths GCSE and a C in English (e.g. Nottingham). -
Re: pharmacy applicants 2012I know this is horrible to say, but it's nice to see someone in the same boat. I've really messed up parts of my chemistry exam, and I know it hasn't gone well. I felt so confident at the time, and now I just keep on having flashbacks (Mostly. OMFG. I DID WHAT!?). But all is not lost! We don't know how it has gone yet and should we miss the grade boundaries, there's a chance our other modules will take the slack. Failing that, there's the option to beg with the university. I mean, they may reconsider if you're off by a few UMS- and it's worth a shot. (Or at least, this is what I keep telling myself before downing shots)(Original post by AmberCD)
Missed out a page in my chem exam by accident, I didn't have much time left so was panicking so didn't see the last page. Now I'm really worried I won't get the grades as it's 8 (from what I'v heard) easy marks down the drain and I didn't like the paper (OCR Salters). Terrified of not getting an A in chemistry now..
Still, they say that a busy mind is the devils workshop, and I think there's mileage in that statement. Try to keep yourself busy (like moi!) and make sure you have a really enjoyable summer to keep you preoccupied! You'll enjoy it after all the exam angst. -
Re: pharmacy applicants 2012
Just a quick thing.. Whoever said locum rates are easily £25.. They used to be until about two years back, now average is around £21ish per hour. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they were sub £20 per hour even next year. Locum market is dying off, lots of locums needing work so the companies can pay lower rates and still get their shifts filled. As with all things, bad locums aren't being booked and the decent ones are still in demand though.
Becoming a permanent pharmacy manager is looking like being the way forward pay wise as starting salary in community is around £35k + benefits/bonus etc and you can get a lot more within a few years. Where your degree comes from doesn't even come in to it really, about how well you do at interview in the main.
Spent my gap year working full time in a pharmacy and working full time there again after finishing first year at Bath. Figures quoted are for Bristol area so may be different elsewhere.
Overall wouldn't really worry about job prospects, the cream rises to the top as they say..Last edited by Jambo; 19-06-2012 at 09:08. -

how much did you get per hour at your job? -
Re: pharmacy applicants 2012
I really don't think I'll be able to achieve my grades that I need to get into Bath this year (AAB) down to the fact I had so many retakes as I was really ill in my one lot of exams..I hope that they take this into account but the Bath bloke on the day still said I'd have to get my grades. Now with 3 exams left (within the next two days) I'm frantically revising as there's so much to go through and I probably wont be able to get the grades now and I've been revising for months and months and its still a last minute cram
-
Re: pharmacy applicants 2012incorrect, take a look at the different uni websites.(Original post by azeem riaz)
i've been told that you need all three sciences to do pharmacy, is that correct? because i do chemistry, biology and history
You must have chemistry!
You must have one other science
The last subject can be any other (i.e. your doing history)

that sucks but don't give up! focus on your last three exams, don't worry too much about the ones you've done because it will affect you. Good luck

Re: pharmacy applicants 2012Saw an advert that they were opening a new pharmacy local to me, wrote out a CV and covering letter saying what i'd done/learnt doing voluntary work experience at another pharmacy. Just standard job application really, was for co-op pharmacy so not all online like Boots or Lloyds.(Original post by FunkeyMunkey)
How did you get a job in a pharmacy?
Got offered jobs at Boots too though, but didn't take it up because it was only temporary, it's worth checking Boots Jobs online near christmas because they usually take on temps and you can ask to be more involved in the healthcare side there which will obviously help with future applications. -

Re: pharmacy applicants 2012salam khobi was the paper hard?(Original post by Bright)
My biology exam went SO bad today.. had As in all units but this one was soooo bad :'(
I don't even know if I managed an A for Chemistry but hopefully I have and then English Literature.. I think I'll get a B.
So will UCL reject me with ABB :'( -

Since you're an A-grade student, I'm sure you did better than you think. I always have that too. Come out of some exams questioning whether I got this or that wrong - really tears you up. But you'll probably have gotten more right than wrong anyway
Was this AQA Biol5 by any chance?
As for UCL, only time will tell. If worst comes to worst, the best thing would be to beg them to let you in and see where that takes you. But well done in completing your exams (assuming they're all done
) and enjoy your summer!
