How can you guys possibly think that glock had a chance to defend his position with slicks tyres on wet track
He didnt make any effort to defend it, watch the footage. -
Re: F1 2011 title fight over???There was no way he would've kept the position if he did try to defend it. Being on slicks makes you incredibly slow, and even if Glock kept the position out the the final turn he would've been overtaken by the time he crossed the line, as he would've been extremely hampered with traction.(Original post by Davethedavedave)

Its funny how its only the fact that Glock was overtaken by Hamilton that bothers people. Vettel got past as well just moments before Hamilton did.. Was Glock only supposed to let Vettel through and stop Hamilton getting past? No way. -

On board from Hamilton. From about 20 seconds you can see Glock in front of Lewis and 2 other cars. Vettel nearly ran right up his arse he was so off the pace. He could have tried defending but Lewis would have flown past with the extra traction going in to the final straight. End of. -
Re: F1 2011 title fight over???
Glock would've been lucky to finish with slicks on never mind defending 5th place.
You can see in that clip even Hamilton fighting the car going in a straight line, and he had inters on. Glock on slicks had no chance.
lol I'm surprised this debate is happening 3 years after, it was settled on the day it happened. -

Vettel will have to have an injury to loose this now.
I know what you mean(Original post by Xenomorph v2.1)

Armchair experts that watch a few youtube videos and think they have a fresh take.
Even if there is an argument to be had, it will never change the outcome..Last edited by Ich Dien; 03-07-2011 at 12:41. -
Re: F1 2011 title fight over???
Vettel could take a holiday for the next three races and still be leading the title - in reality he could probably take the next four off and still be leading! Unfortunately I'd say that's pretty much wrapped up. Yes, in the last few seasons, we've seen a lead of 25+ (or equivalent before the points were changed) points eaten away in the final two races, but I really doubt we'll see anything like that happen this year.
As an interesting aside, here's how the championship would look if we were using the old scoring system (10 for a win, 8 for 2nd, etc):
1. Vettel: 76
2. Webber: 45
3. Button: 44
4. Hamilton: 40
5. Alonso: 36
So the only change would be 2nd & 3rd. Vettel would still be more than 3 wins clear. It would be slightly closer if you compare the points of everyone else as a percentage of Vettel's:
Button has 58.6% of Vettel's points currently, under the old system he'd have 57.9%.
Webber has 58.6% of Vettel's points currently, under the old system he'd have 59.2%.
Hamilton has 52.2% of Vettel's points currently, under the old system he'd have 52.6%.
Alonso has 46.8% of Vettel's points currently, under the old system he'd have 47.4%.
So, the new points system doesn't really stop people running away with the championship in the way it was intended! -
Re: F1 2011 title fight over???Not this **** again. The Toyotas were on dry tyres on a wet track and had no grip. What part of that dont some people get?(Original post by Rakas21)
I agree in that i think Vettel has the championship unless he gets a few DNF's.
Looking back at the first post Schumacheur era..
2007: Raikkonen wins with 6 victories
2008: Hamilton won with 5 (Massa would have won with 6 had 'glock' not braked late for Hamilton) (also if you ever want to hear a crowd, last lap of Brazil 08 when Massa won, ave never heard anything like it)
2009: Button wins with 6 despite not winning after race 7
2010: Vettel wins with 5 (alonso also had 5)
As you can see, history tells us that 6 is what is needed in the modern F1 environment. Vettel will be the double world champion.
Hoping for a Massa win in Silverstone, he was really screwed over by Ferrari in Valencia.

Re: F1 2011 title fight over???Just leave it... I'm sure that if we could get 'Glock' to post then he'd clear it all up... Until then, we've tried our best to convince him that 'Glock' was doing all he could and he still won't listen. Poor 'Glock'. I like the guy!(Original post by CB91)

Re: F1 2011 title fight over???I did wonder why he put apostrophes around Glock tbh.(Original post by mikeyd85)

It's great you've found the time to join TSR! Must be hard to find the time during a race weekend.
