Depends on what course you want to do. If it's something like maths then most universities prefer you don't do gap years.

For grades, again it depends on what you want to study. Have a look on their website where it states entry requirements.

    1. Depends on the subjects. Disapproved of for maths for example, approved of for engineering as another example - most subject faculties state that they don't care either way.

    2. Grades / marks are the most important - in relevant and traditional subjects. Then the usual - evidence of an extra curricular life, achievements in hobbies, sports, music etc.

Cambridge like students that have previously been signed to Cash Money Records. Good luck.

    1. For the most part, it shouldn't be a worry. In fact, I applied to Cambridge looking to start this year, but I got a deferred offer instead, so I'll be taking a gap year as long as I haven't completely screwed up my exams.

    2. You shouldn't be aiming for anything less than your best. Finding a "minimum requirement" to get into Cambridge is kind of missing the point. Also, they don't have any set requirements really, and it varies from candidate to candidate. The one factor that is consistent is that they're looking for you to be genuinely interested in your subject, which includes extra work outside of your academic curriculum. Your best bet really is to do what you can to get the best grades you can and do more work on the side.

    This is also true.

I was signed to Def Jam Recordings and it was a struggle to get an interview. :/

And that needn't be much. Reading a few related books and talking about what I learned from them in the PS was all I did apart from grades.

^That's true. I read two books, wrote an essay on what I'd read, and went through a few lectures from various universities that I got from iTunes U. I did end up having to discuss all of those in the interview, though, so it's not a good idea to just skim through various texts and claim you've read them. Most of the interview was based around forming my own opinions and questioning whatever they threw at me.

Applied for history, by the way.

My friend who does Physics at Oxford had his interviewer spend the entire time mocking his personal statement to his face. Certainly be prepared to explain and justify anything you put in it.

Neither of my interviews mentioned any of the extracurricular/voluntary things that I wrote about. They were both purely academic.

The content was what you would expect, but he was trying to make it funny as well. Since he did get an offer I imagine the interviewer just wanted to see how well he could defend what he said.

Yes - of course I am!

You need further maths (unless your school doesn't offer it) for engineering... doing arts subjects won't get you in to natsci... doing no art won't get you in to architecture... doing no chemistry won't get you into medicine!
