oh cambridge pre-u. since not many ppl apply hku with cambridge pre-u examination, it will not be advantageous or disadvantageous for u. basically they look at the grades instead of examination, like there's no difference between IB and GCE A-level. typical offers for med apps for IB are >40 out of 42 and >3A* for a-levels.
well i've got a nearly unconditional med offer from CUHK and unconditional offer from King's. still waiting for HKU's reply but well.... there's still plenty of time
haha because the situation in hk is like this: many local students who are currently taking HKDSE or HKALE (local curriculums) are planning to take GCE A-levels. they are afraid of the credibility of the examination system, especially the newly-implemented HKDSE. so more students take A-levels to get into UK unis.
however, they are a bit messed up with the "board" system for A-levels, since the only "board" for HKDSE/HKALE is HKEAA. so they frequently ask questions like " which board is better?" "does board matters?" local students lack of knowledge of A-level system.
if u are F7 or F6, u would be applying to 2012 entry. so u must be F5 in order to apply for 2013 entry (there's basically no deferred entry system in hk's uni)
anyway sorry i got it wrong
No worries (well, I am much older than you think haha :P) and thanks! Also, congratulations for your offers! Hope you are gonna have good news from HKU too!
Actually I am working already and thinking about doing med back in HK. When did you start applying? Why do you think you got admitted in CUHK? Strong interview and academic performance as well as strong reference? -
Re: Hong Kong Universitywow u are working... in health-care or science sector? well.... actually i applied last year but sadly wasnt admitted. so i'm basically taking a gap year and reapplying to med schools in hk. i filled my application form last december for 2012-2013 round.(Original post by clcokwin)

hmmmm.... i'm not sure about the reason of being admitted into CUHK. they only give feedback if u are rejected (provided that u ask them for feedback) and doesnt give comments on those who receive offers. perhaps i perform better than i expect during interview? i just dont know and i dont have a reallyreally strong reference (only one from my school principal). i just know that CUHK admits ppl not only with strong academics but with strong desire to study medicine. perhaps that's why i impressed the professors.... -

Re: Hong Kong University
Ok I need some serious advice.
Basically I have contacted HKU about getting an my application read earlier because I have offers from other universities. Admissions replied saying that they have contacted the faculties involved.
Do you think my application will be read earlier? -

I think u can personally email the respective faculty as a back-up notification. or show them the proof (letter of admission with deadline of reply)
u need to seriously show how urgent the earlier decision u need, cuz if everyone contacts the admission office for earlier decision, then how many can they entertain. -

normal interviews are held during easter, but fast-track ppl got their interviews like in december last year. i remember last year the latest batch of interview was on 25/8, only a week before the start of the new academic year. so there's plenty of time and chance. just dont be so desperate atm~
na my results werent very good. basically i'm using the same results as last year's to apply, but they finally give me a place this year. so perhaps the places of non-JUPAS boosted due to the double-cohort year and i am luckily securing a place

Hey.. When did you apply? HKU has Skype interviews yeah?.. No news for dentistry yet..
Im not sure...It could be face-to-face and 1 -1
Maybe skype is for international applicants. I dont think HKU will want us to purposely fly to HK for a 15-20 min interview...
dentistry needs no interview as im concerned.Last edited by DarylTHM; 06-03-2012 at 07:37.
