I asked one of the admissions people this on the open day! He said that there are 6 applicants for every place, but he also said that this included the people who had absolutely no chance of getting in but were just applying for the hell of it, so it's not as bad as it sounds.

SSEES is an entire department :s-smilie:

Not a course. For History there are only about 40 places. Depends on the others, look at the prospectus.

Whoever I spoke to made it sound like 6 applicants to every place was fairly consistent throughout SSEES, I dunno though.

does anybody know when roughly SSEES reply, i sent my application in for consideration in early october and still havent heard back getting worried now :/
