What did you get? And what are you studying? -
Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entry
Went to the open day and absolutely loved it
Even though me and my brother were silly enough to walk from Broadgate Park all the way to the centre, we thought the lady said 10 mins walk, she meant 10 mins bus..
I was originally going to apply to NatSci, then BioSci, but now just plain Biology, so much on parasitology

Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entrySame here! I absolutely loved it today. It was so well organised! I went to the University Park campus and I thought the campus was just beautiful - I loved the lake with the ducks and the ice cream van was an added bonus too. xD I'm now 100% certain I want to apply and have managed to persuade my mum it's a good choice too. Oh yeah.(Original post by dream_merchant)

I was just surprised that there was an overwhelming majority of White people - from the potential students, to the actual students and staff
I thought there would've been more diversity...or am I the only one thinking this?

But then again it was the same for me at So'ton and it probably will be the same for me at Bristol and, to a certain extent, any other Russel Group uni. It is slightly worrying but if this wasnt the case then there wouldnt be schemes such as 'Widening participation'. -

Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entryUnfortunately, that's likely to be the case at any top uni, bar the London ones.(Original post by Tpos)

Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entry
Hey, best of luck for everyone!!!
I'm a new student entering Nott.Uni this September to study Economics L100. I'll be new to the whole uni experience but if anyone wants advice over the next few months, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help, I know how stressful the A-level year can be but if you put in the hard work, you'll get the rewards (in the shape of OFFERS
), just make your applications the best you could possibly give of yourselves and leave no regrets for later!!
-
Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entryHey, nice to know someone doing L100! may I know what subjects you did in A levels and what your conditional offer was at first? Also, are you a local or international student? Because the entry requirements have gone up this year and I'm hoping it's true that international students can get slightly lower offers. Thanks!(Original post by WitwickyDZ)

Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entryMy subjects were Economics, Politics and Maths. You don't need to do more than 3 subjects, it's hardly worth the workload. I'm not sure what the new entry requirements are but I got a conditional offer of AAA. But bear in mind that universities tailor pick every one of their students, so if your predicted grades are ABB but you put in one heck of an application (mainly personal statement) then they will offer you with ABB.(Original post by paperstars123)

Just make sure you don't regret you didn't work as hard on your application before you send it off, because to some extent, the work you do now for your application can be more important than what grades you can get at the end of the year.
Good luck and don't get lazy these next few weeks

Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entryI think you should be careful about saying that because Economics is very competitive.(Original post by WitwickyDZ)

Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entryYou're absolutly right. Economics is competitive at all universities and you have to get the very best grades you can. But if you don't think you will be able to make the competitive grades, then you should at least try to put in the most competitive personal statement and keep your fingers crossed. My point was: don't feel disheartened if your teacher won't predict you high grades. You still have a chance.(Original post by yahyahyahs)
I think you should be careful about saying that because Economics is very competitive.
By no means should anyone purposely get lower predicted grades then they should get. -
Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entrySo if someone was predicted AAB, would you say, they should bother applying for Economics @ Notts?(Original post by WitwickyDZ)

Re: Nottingham Applicants for 2012 entryI can't say it would be impossible. But you have to remember that the L100 course looks for AAA as a requirement, and bear in mind that many applicants get themselves predicted A*AA or more. I could recommend applying to "Economics and (another subject)" if the entry requirments for that joint degree was AAB or less.(Original post by theseeker)
So if someone was predicted AAB, would you say, they should bother applying for Economics @ Notts?
Ultimately the decision is with the applicant and they have to take all advices on board with a pinch of salt and be confident to make up their own mind.
