    How is everyone?

Unfortunately my dad passed away on the 8th may, and I've pretty much had the whole of may off work. Hoping to go back in June part time for a month (and use annual leave to make up the extra shift i'll be missing a week!) but i'm very down/stressed!

Doesn't help that my cat has also gone missing AND I have chronic bronchitas and the whole stress has caused a flare up....!!

Aw man this has really all gone downhill the nursing soc- feel so bad! Just been so busy now, i very rarely come on here! Anyway have a piece of exciting nurse related news. Really hated my current ward, constantly understaffed right now and the patients are getting more demanding but poor support from management- basically im feeling unsafe EVERY shift!

So on a whim a job came up on the new Major trauma critical care unit with the big new trauma centre opening up in my trust- and i got the job!!!! So excited, can really take my career forward and start specialising now. It's such a small unit, but amazing team- plus a brand new ward!!

Well done for taking taking the initiative to get out rather than stay there and suffer. Too many of us would rather stay where we are and moan and let them get away with dangerous staffing levels.

Let us know how it goes.

If anyone is interested in helping out new applicants with their personal statements have a look at PS Help. You get mentored by an experienced PS Helper until you're happy and confident as well as getting a cool PS Helper thing by your name. Requirements are you have a confirmed placed at uni, are on a uni course, or have graduated from a uni course (and aren't applying for another).

If it sounds like something you'd like to do then post a thread on Ask a PS Help Mod saying your interested

    Hi,

I'm currently in my 4th week of the Child Nursing course at Bradford University. It was a close shave but I got in in the end.

I have just started adult nursing and I fid it really hard. You have to do a lot of reading and it is full on from the start. Will it get easier?

You got it right about the reading; we've had loads.

I highly doubt it's going to get any easier I'm afraid, especially with placements after Christmas.

We're already on our second assignment and prepping for our first exam in November. If you think about how much they have to cram in then it's not surprising we have to do so much. I don't think it'll get easier, I think we'll get into the hang of it.

So far we've done reading medicine charts, distributing medicine, suppositories, bls, manual handling, aseptic technique, oxygen therapy and I think I'm due in for paeds bls next week and fire safety at some point.

Yes ofcourse it will! You actually don't need to read whats on the reading list- they're more of a 'guide' on where to find the best citable material for future essays!!!
