That was the one part of the interview I was confident about and they didn't ask, typical!

I got it right but I wasn't expecting to be asked to do maths infront of a panel of 4 people on the spot, really threw me and I probably looked a right idiot!

oooo, whats the ITU course like? I'm applying straight for ITU jobs as a NQ and have been told i'll be placed on the Msc in ITU/critical care after 6 months.

All the hospitals I applied for ITU wait until you're ready for the ITU course, I wouldn't have been ready 6months post qualifying, there's so many other things to learn first. We have to have completed the first two respiratory and cardiovascular manchester competency books and the haemofiltration course and competencies. I was lucky, I've done the haemo course but I've not completed all the competencies, but my manager had noone else for the place and felt I'd be able to cope.

Where I work there's no pressure to do the course if you don't want to because experience counts for as much as a course does if you want to stay at the same hospital. I want to do it to allow me to progress within ITU throughout my career because unfortunately experience doesn't always look as good on a CV without a course or additional qualifications. I love where I work, I get a good rounded ITU experience as we're home to the NSIC and a high tech burns unit, so we often get cases flown in from around the country for these reasons.

I'm doing the course at Oxford Brookes, it's 1yr part time broken into 3 modules with an exam for the first module, OSCEs and an essay. I start on 21st September so I'll let you know how it goes. x

Nervous, not sure what to expect, but hopefully it'll be a really good learning opportunity. Nervous about third year too. Terrified about being really poor... and not having a job (appealing unfair dismissal because i apparently didn't turn up to a shift... which is pure crap!) is not going to help the ****ty degree financial situation... should just stick with diploma really

Hi guys,

Had some bad news recently. My dad has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer- will be carrying on looking after group, BUT apologies for those who've had delayed join requests! We don't know what stage he's at yet, and hoping it's an early stage- we'll be finding out soon, so fingers crossed. However the hospital aren't necessarily rushing to get him admitted or have tests/treatment yet- so that can only be a good thing, right?

On the plus side- had two job offers! One in bristol for an MAU ward and an ITU job in oxford....!!

Really sorry to hear that Anna, will be thinking of you and your family.
Tbh, i thought that anyone that has a cancer diagnosis/suspected cancer and all that is seen very quickly...it's all on the two week wait isn't it? Once you've been diagnosed it's supposed to be all very fast...mdt/chemo/surgery/referral to upper gi cancer specialist nurse all asap etc..

Congrats on the job offers  How many more interviews have you got or are you just going to accept the ITU one?

Also, anyone got any really good tips on how to pick a dissertation topic that isn't going to make me want to hate nursing by the end of it lol??

My next placement is ITU and we've been told to pick a topic related to the placement and use our mentors and the placement for help and advice with the topic..
