Tbh, i thought that anyone that has a cancer diagnosis/suspected cancer and all that is seen very quickly...it's all on the two week wait isn't it? Once you've been diagnosed it's supposed to be all very fast...mdt/chemo/surgery/referral to upper gi cancer specialist nurse all asap etc..

Congrats on the job offers How many more interviews have you got or are you just going to accept the ITU one?

Yeah me too- I'm not happy. It's taken though 4 weeks from referral to GP for an endoscopy to diagnosis, and now having a CT scan to see if it's spread.

I'm sure after today, things will get rolling and treatment will be quicker- the way I'm seeing it though if the biopsies and the endoscopy showed something 'worse' they'd have rushed to get scans and treatment MUCH sooner. When my grandad had lung cancer he was admitted after his scan the very same day to start treatment- so, we'll see.

I'm meant to be on holiday right now and had plans to do my dissertation etc...- all gone out the window! Instead i'm spending so much time in bristol (spent more this month than I have over the past 3 years!) not doing work and doing housework and looking after my teenage brothers- who both, despite being 16 and 19 do eff all around the house, don't have jobs..and really take the piss!

Sounds like your teenage brothers need a nice kick up the butt.. you think they'd be more helpful around the house with what's going on at home!!

I hope the CT scan comes back at an early stage for him.

Pain management sounds good. I also thought about mouth care because of the ventilation maybe...

Whatever i do, i want my topic to be simple and to the point.. when i start writing about complicated stuff i end up in a tiz and hating myself lol!

Mouthcare is a good one for ITU, its very important in the avoidance of ventilator associated pneumonia.

I'm going to do some reading around mouthcare and have a look at pain management and just get a feel for both ideas and see how i get on. (Once i've finished cleaning my flat )

Just a small update

Dad had CT scan then on saturday a letter arrived asking him to come for an ultrasound guided biopsy via endoscopy next week. We've had no explanation why this is happening, or what they'll be taking a biopsy of.

Plus feeling a bit frustrated that we're just being left in limbo even longer, and CT scan took 13 days to be done..rather than the 7-10 days we were told. Not impressed quite frankly- will be speaking to mcmillan nurse tomorrow about some more info, personally I think they're doing it to take a biopsy of lymph nodes, or to back themselves up before starting surgery (as sometimes things can be too small to asess and grade via CT) however so fed up of the lack of communication.

Going to throw myself into dissertation work now..it's due in 3 weeks, so..need to get my butt in gear (although I do have an extension but i'll use it if something major happens with my dad).


Uni also aren't going to be changing my placement now- not too sure how thrilled I am to be on a ward which is palliative for 12 weeks whilst all this is going on with my family. Despite my dad not being classed as terminal at this very moment- it's always at the back of my mind. Plus the ward does 5 days a week and I can't do long day shifts which is a bit frustrating as I'd prefer to do 3 long days, meaning I can have a bit of flexibility to spend time at home but also be at uni...grrr, but I'll feel pedantic saying something!

Ugh with everything thats happened this summer I realised today I have 12 weeks left from next week..12 of which will be spent on my last placement.

12 weeks wow! It's going incredibly fast!! I managed two years of a languages degree before nursing and it went incredibly slowly in comparison.. wonder why nursing seems to fly by so quickly?

Im having a right day of it today! Trying to chase up student loans and the bursary people, it's like trying to get blood out of a freaking stone!

Dads 'big' consultant appointment is tomorrow afternoon where we find everything out- would appreciate if everyone kept him and the family in their thoughts/prayers, we're all a bit on edge at the moment!

Most of my 3rd year modules are up online now. Gotta admit it knocks me slightly sick just looking at them, nerves, feeling completely out of my depth and knowing gonna have **** loads to do!

It'll fly- my advice is to enjoy it


Had my last assignment mark back- actually my lowest mark since I started the course at 56%...but it's still ok as i only need to get 50% in my dissertation to get a 1st in my degree, so fingers crossed!

Dad's cancer is a T3N0 which isn't the BEST but they're still trying to treat it, starting chemo next week for 2-4 cycles and then surgery to remove it

I know that feeling so well haha!! And the dreaded D word is being thrown about so much already its like eughhhhhh!!!!

What are your modules, I'm intrigued to see what the similarities and differences are between unis!?
