Didnt see/ speak to them. Walking from Mojo's to Wessex hall. NOT something I'd like to do in winter/alone/ when its dark. Felt like it would be really easy to kidnap, kill me then dump my body in Whiteknights lake & none of it to be caught on CCTV.
ooops. Well now they're charging £9000 fees, I'm sure they could spare a few pennies.

    Same!
But I don't even want to put it down on my UCAS to be honest :/
tbf. I'm not even sure they do the course I want! Edit: They don't even do a pure Chemistry Bsc degree.

Has anyone been to any open days for:

    Bath
    Exeter
    Plymouth
    Portsmouth
    Southampton Solent
    Essex
    Loughborough
    Nottingham trent
    Birmingham
    Leeds Met
    Chichester
    Bournemouth
    Brighton

If so, what did you make of them?
I go to Essex and I liked the open day. The students seemed actually interested and passionate, and even the admin staff were trying to sell the uni to us, so everyone really did make an effort. They opened with a welcome meeting, sent you off to your department with a student who also gave a tour. parents and prospective students were separated, which I also thought was nice, so you could go away without them pushing you into what they thought of the day or them moaning that it was boring. Then you had something to eat and chance to meet the tutors and lecturers and there. Ah and before that, there was a short lecture telling you what to expect. It was informative. Of course the uni itself puts a lot of people off;ugly, out of the way etc.

I live in Leicester. It has the biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India. It is probably one of the most multi-cultural cities in the country. I don't know where these streets are you mentioned. Car burning?!
Is it actually multicultural or does it just have lots of South Asians?

I hated RHUL because it had a really snobby atmosphere and the lecturer snubbed me in a sample lecture.
My biology teacher attended RHUL and told me of a lecturer whilst married having an affair with his student. I was like :lolwut:.

I didn't like Birmingham. Everything was quite unorganised and we didn't have a clue where to go or what to do when we first got there. Plus the campus looked quite shabby. I wouldn't say it was horrible but it just felt weird and I kept thinking to myself 'what on earth am I even doing here?'.

My brother gave me a tour of exeter which was the same time as the post offer open day. It has a beautiful campus, however there is a significant amount of building work going on. It had a lovely vibe and I could easily see myself there. It isn't too spread out so it's easy enough to find your way around that goes for both the town itself and the campus'

    QMUL and Southampton.

QMUL for its location, and Southampton for being so...unremarkable looking.

    Wait...

Are you trying to imply that this...

...doesn't rival the beauty of Oxbridge?
Actually, St. Anthony's (i think) in Oxford has an building a little similar.. kinda like contemporary concrete stuff. It's reallllly cool. But admittedly a tad nicer than that :P

I visited Cambridge just after LSE, and I'd just fallen in love with the buzz and massiveness of London. One of the things I hate about my hometown is that everyone knows each other. I hated the city. It was really small and quaint; there were christian bookstores everywhere.. just not my thing at all.

Also, I was pretty disgusted when I went to visit Manchester. I go to the city all the time and love it, but I'd never actually visited the uni before. I did so, and absolutely hated it. They hadn't bothered to hoover up, there was litter everywhere... it was just dirty. The college I've just left made sure that everything was absolutely perfect for open days so they gave the right first impression. I didn't want to go to a uni that wasn't even bothered - I mean, if that's how it is on an open day, how is it the rest of the time? :lolwut:
What buildings did you go into in Manchester that were dirty? :lolwut: I've never once seen litter in a building, but I obviously haven't been into all.

anyone been to loughborough, birmingham, oxford brookes or northampton? any of them terrible?
I've been to Bham for an interview/applicant day and I loved it. The area near my courses department (geology) was beautiful and you had the clocktower just right outside. (and I usually don't care about architeture so that's saying something!) People seemed nice, but there were some who were a bit snobby, the lecturers were really friendly. The accommodation wasn't anything special, however the prices are very expensive compared to other unis I looked at and the system for allocating rooms compared to my firm is pretty flawed (first come first served basis, I received my offer about a month or two after they had opened the applications, so I'll probably get 3rd party accommodation which is a 40min walk from campus). Compared to other unis, it's own train station was a godsend making it easier to get to the campus instead of relying on the directions of others (or lack of them, ahem Coventry) The city seems all right and there looks like a lot to do.

ps the human biology course for lboro looks amazing I was going to apply to it last year before I changed my mind. It's my friends firm and she loved it when she went to the open day and said the accommodation is good. However because of the stupid system she hasn't got any accommodation yet because they ran out of rooms. Oxford Brookes is her insurance and she hates it and would rather reapply next year than go there. That's just her opinion, I haven't been to either of them.

It isn't just South Asians, there are plenty of other nationals here e.g. Chinese, Japanese, African, European. You name them, we more than likely have them :P

Oxford Brookes - I love the city but I really hated that University.
I went with the shallow idea that it'll always be looked down on as the 'rubbish Oxford' and it stuck so I critisised everything about the University. The buildings I went in seemed quite poorly kept and the man who held the the lecture about Law actually managed me to change my mind about doing Law at University all together as well as putting me off Oxford Brookes.

The accomodation was really nice though.

I'm not going to say that I hated LSE, but when I arrived there for a post offer thing I was met by two tramps who called me a rapist and a paedophile, my mum a c**t and who chased us down the street. In hindsight it's quite funny but at the time it was disquieting, to say the least.
