you applied across a bit of a range there
I wasn't really confident with my application since I'm an international with unusual qualifications, so I applied to 4 different unis.

Although I loved UCL at the time, there was definitely an air of pompusness about it, the lecturer for my course was an absolute creep and had the attitude that they were too good for anyone. Post rejection bittnerness

i hated Kent, and unfortunately it's my insurance, it seemed everyone who was there got there through clearing or it was an insurance choice, there was no big student vibe and it was absolutely chucking it down which didnt help, however, the accommodation was amazing, better than my bedroom at home.

And I really didnt like KCL. It was always my dream uni with UCL, but it was just so underwhelming when I got there.
I got that impression from Kent too. I was at a table with a whole group of English students and not one person wanted to firm them.

I'm not going to say that I hated LSE, but when I arrived there for a post offer thing I was met by two tramps who called me a rapist and a paedophile, my mum a c**t and who chased us down the street. In hindsight it's quite funny but at the time it was disquieting, to say the least.
    Lol that's pretty funny

Everything in the uni was just enclosed on what felt like quite a small area, like a mini-town. It's not necessarily a bad thing, your accommodation is close to everything and all that and everyone's together, it just didn't feel like a real place if that makes sense? Felt quite cut off from the outside world. But I've heard nothing but good things from people who have actually been there so I don't think there's anything to worry about
Ohhhh yeah, yeah I completely get what you mean, I think I already kind of knew that (the fact that it's sort of "sectioned") at the back of my head tbh. And thanks =]

How come - why didn't you like it? And what did you look at (which halls, which departments, which buildings etc)?
Most of the halls were nice and i pretty much saw the whole campus but it just wouldn't have suited me. The department (Psychology) were extremely pretencious (in my opinion) and I didn't think I'd get on well there. Still visit yourself and see what you think as my view is highly subjective!

    Re: Unis you hated
Everyone in our year who wanted to visit Strathclyde got taken up by the school the day after their "official open day", I wasn't very impressed. Maybe it was just the people who were showing us around and talking to us, but they seemed very rude and acting like we were a huge burden for a measly hour. Their Geography course seemed very restrictive and they rejected me anyway, but I ended up getting offers from universities far more respected for Geography so it all worked out in the end. I love the city of Glasgow though

Stirling campus is very nice, but I absolutely hated the city and the people didn't seem very friendly - but feel free to prove me wrong, we didn't explore it for very long.

Glasgow Caley is actually quite a nice, modern campus. I attended the Computing/Engineering applicant day with my boyfriend and they seemed to spend more time slagging off other unis than actually telling you about the course. I'm not into Engineering at all but they were demonstrating a piece of software and the guy telling us about it said, "ONE uni in Glasgow actually doesn't use this software at all, and only teach the theory of it." Er, very good. He also tried to tell us that an Engineering graduate from Caley was chosen over one from Cambridge for a job, which I find a bit hard to believe...

How can you hate a university for being 'studenty'

Most people see that as a desirable criteria
Because not all of us are 'typical' students. My idea of a good night doesn't really involved 6 shots for £5 or whatever. So yes, being too studenty is an issue in a way.

Well you can always pay a tenner for a cocktail in Buffalo Bar on Windsor Place, if budgeting doesn't suit you.

Went to look at Edge Hill with an ex, and I felt so claustrophobic there. It's a tiiiiny uni and you live on campus in your first year, and Ormskirk is so small you don't really have anywhere else to go unless you go into Liverpool/Preston, which you can't really do regularly due to funds and it being an effort to get back. Also the guy doing our tour kept making these really cringe jokes and they didn't even properly show people the academic departments or library, just the gym and SU.

    Southampton, absolutely.

The uni itself seemed really cold. The people interviewing us seemed a little, I don't know, desperate - like they had to sell the place to us or they knew we'd all reject it. The students I met seemed really focused on partying hard and not doing ANY kind of work, in an unbalanced way.

Since then I had to live in the city for ~6 months for my internship. It's just not a good place to live.

I was really put off Imperial too, not because I didn't like the place but because the person interviewing me seemed really angry about having to do it. He rushed me through everything, got pissed off that he called me in late and kicked me out as soon as I came up with an answer because he was running late and needed to call in the next student. Most unfriendly interview I had.

I had Kent as my first choice last year, got rejected, reapplied, got in and firmed it this year. Personally I can't imagine going anywhere else. I think people get put off by the lack of nightlife perhaps or the architecture, I can't see anything else at fault with it compared to other universities wanting similar grades.

I hated Lincoln at the open day, the thought of having to go there really spurred me on in my A-levels to get good grades. It was so depressing, the students didn't seem very bright at all and someone threw litter at our group. The city is beautiful though.

I've been to Bham for an interview/applicant day and I loved it. The area near my courses department (geology) was beautiful and you had the clocktower just right outside. (and I usually don't care about architeture so that's saying something!) People seemed nice, but there were some who were a bit snobby, the lecturers were really friendly. The accommodation wasn't anything special, however the prices are very expensive compared to other unis I looked at and the system for allocating rooms compared to my firm is pretty flawed (first come first served basis, I received my offer about a month or two after they had opened the applications, so I'll probably get 3rd party accommodation which is a 40min walk from campus). Compared to other unis, it's own train station was a godsend making it easier to get to the campus instead of relying on the directions of others (or lack of them, ahem Coventry) The city seems all right and there looks like a lot to do.

ps the human biology course for lboro looks amazing I was going to apply to it last year before I changed my mind. It's my friends firm and she loved it when she went to the open day and said the accommodation is good. However because of the stupid system she hasn't got any accommodation yet because they ran out of rooms. Oxford Brookes is her insurance and she hates it and would rather reapply next year than go there. That's just her opinion, I haven't been to either of them.
    thats really useful. thank you (;

    I'm from North London 2

Ah that's cool, I don't wanna make you do a long review

£2 that's mad cheap, I have a railcard so I'll defo keep that in mind!
Ah wicked! Palmers Green/Wood Green - that's where my family live! It's pretty Greek there haha it's like Greekvile.

Oh that's cool, thanks I have a couple friends that didn't have a gap year like me and go to Uni in Manny and they love it so you'll be fine! I did know a girl that dropped out right before her first year exams but she was a bit of a weirdo so I wouldn't worry.

Yes it's mad cheap, you'll realise how cheap it is for transport when you move out of London and the South East. It's so expensive round here and up North you can travel around for pennies aha! Railcard is needed because you'll love to visit other places and in the spring/summer - Blackpool

Having read through 15 pages of this thread, I am surprised to find that Southampton is TSR's most hated university. Certainly not the university I'd have predicted.

I rather enjoyed Southampton's open day when I visited last Friday.

In fact I was rather sad that I probably won't apply there due to living in Southampton!

To be fair, my assertion was based purely on the number of times universities have been mentioned throughout the thread. If I recall, most of the reasons people said Southampton were pretty tenuous, stuff like the campus being uninspiring and the shopping in Southampton not being all it's cracked up to be etc.

I certainly wouldn't let peoples' opinions on here affect my choices. In honesty, I suspect a lot of the comments are motivated out of spite due to rejections.

Lol yeah the Greeks basically own those parts of London, and there's also loads of Turkish people in Manor House, Edmonton etc. A girl I know (who's Greek) has told me Greeks and Turks don't like eachother, not sure if it's true lol.

Ah that's good then i've heard nothing but positivity about the uni so far

Yeah London is so expensive, I'm sure I'll have a better qualiity of life up north .

Seriously? I went to the most recent open day and the accommodation was one of the nicest i'd seen, especially the single en-suite rooms. I do agree about the buildings around the lake though. They reminded me of a multistory car park and not a nice one.

Edit: and yes the course i'm interested in looked great as well with good prospects at the end! (engineering)
Oh we saw a little 'house' or something which seemed to have been built in keeping with the multi-storey carpark aesthetic -_- Inside it seemed so cramped and dingy, but maybe that was just a one-off then, or they've renovated them since last year.
