Re: A Song of Ice and Fire(Original post by Abbadon27)
Spoiler:ShowThe problem with Dany's chapters is that GRRM wrote himself into a corner. There was no realistic way for Dany to get out of Meereen while keeping her values, and it just caused Dany's chapters to become slow and boring while GRRM struggled to find a way out of it.Spoiler:ShowThe 'Meereen' Knot as he once called it. And the way he resolved it was just a bit of a let down. I feel she's just messing about too much tbh. GRRM is dragging it out, I was expecting her arrival at Westeros/across the sea much sooner. Who knows how many more books that will take.
Do you think Jon is dead? Wildlings save him? Or if he is dead, Melisandre resurrects him?
Also, is Jon Azor Ahai (reborn) or is that Dany? Did it not say he would be reborn 'under a bleeding star'. And the obvious clue being the knight who has stars as his sign just before Jon is stabbed.
As for the Mirri prophecy:
Quentyn was "the sun rising in the west and setting in the east", Dany became fertile and I remember something being reported as going dry. Is it likely Drogo might return?"When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east," said Mirri Maz Duur. "When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before."
How long until the next book?

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I'm about 230ish pages into A Game of Thrones, I really enjoyed the TV show so decided to pick up the books and read through them. I've never read a book as fast as I have been doing with this. Hopefully I will be able to get through a couple of the books before the next TV series is released.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Read Clath of Kings at the moment I assume, kind of weird here in germany they seemed to have split a up a whole book into two single ones. I have nothing to do at the moment so that is how I spent my time, reading one book after another. I am enjoying those books but must admit the plot develops slowly, it better be a good one!

Re: A Song of Ice and FireWoow, there is a show? I guess an english one?(Original post by Jake200493)
The show basically covers the first book- Game of Thrones.
Clash of Kings will cover the second series
Is it worth watching or should I rather stick to my imaginations ? -

Yup. On the network HBO and Sky Atlantic. It's been getting fantastic reviews, it's great, is faithful to the book and there's a large thread on TSR about it: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=1307752
It's worth the watch. High quality and some good actors.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I've been trying to get through the first book for ages, but I can't seem to do it :/ I started reading it about a year ago, stopped, then watched the TV series and tried picking it up again, but I just can't finish it. The author is touring near where I live and I bought tickets to go to his signing in late July so I'll be picking up the A Dance With Dragons around then.

Re: A Song of Ice and FireYou could look at eBay. Amazon has some pretty decent pricing listings:(Original post by Liam_G)
Can anybody post some links to where I could buy the first three books online for a reasonable price ?
I've never heard of the series before but by the sounds of things, it's definitely worth a read
A Game of Thrones - £3.98
A Clash of Kings - £4.49
A Storm of Swords - £4.40
or Books 1-4 collection £20.13 or £24.99 -
Re: A Song of Ice and FireThey're about £4 on Amazon I think(Original post by Liam_G)

Contains links to the others at the start of the series. At roughly £5 a piece you can't complain. You can pick up a more recently published (with new cover advertising the TV series) for 50p more than the one I linked.

.Thanks for the replies(Original post by ExcessNeo)
.
One more question, I was just on Amazon, about to buy the three books when I noticed another suggested book which was "A Storm of Swords: 2 Blood and Gold".
So... Is each book split up into other books, if you know what I mean

As far as I know, the third book is split into two parts because it would be impossible to print otherwise. -
Re: A Song of Ice and FireThe third book is split into two parts (total page count is over 1000 pages) but you can get it in one part (the link I posted above for example).(Original post by Liam_G)

I was worrying that I'd have to buy about nine books

I was panicking just a bit then. I'll go ahead and purchase them now. I can't believe that it's the middle of July and I have accomplished absolutely zilch so far. I've done nothing productive for the past 5 weeks
I decided to go for the full box-set, because it actually worked out cheaper once the delivery charges for the individual ones were taken into account (because they came from different, independent stores).
Looking forward to reading them. Although I'm a little concerned about the sheer size of them, 1000+ pages?

Re: A Song of Ice and FireApparently, It slow (especially, if you don't like the characters).(Original post by scotttb)
just starting book 4, is it as bad as the reviews say it is?
I've heard it's better on a re-read, though. -
Re: A Song of Ice and FireYou could always read chapter summaries at the "Tower of the Hand".(Original post by Orwell)
I've read all the others, but I can't remember for the life of me what happened, so I suppose if I want to read this one, I'll have to go back and read the others. Damn.
