Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Yeah, you have a chance. It's all down to the PS and 'other factors' though(Original post by Evan7788)
Any idea how competitive Geology is here? Is there a good chance of getting in with a AAABB/AAAAB?(personal statement and other factors aside.)
Thanks

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012
You know, I had little to no idea how competitive St Andrews was until after I got my offer - so don't worry yourself about the competitivity of it all. I was predicted my exact A-level results (AAAB) and they made me an early offer (which is apparently quite rare) so anything is possible :P

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012They have increased the grade requirements for some subjects since we applied. I know history has gone from AAB to AAA this year.(Original post by LGF92)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Have they? As far as triple hons languages go I believe that they've stayed at AAB with an A in the language you do know, but nevertheless people shouldn't let competitiveness put them off applying.(Original post by Oh-WOW)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Yep. It is only some subjects. Quite a few now require AAA like English, History, Economics, Geography, Classical studies, Maths, Management, Pyschology (actually just most of them. Languages and a few others seem to be the exception). When we applied, most required AAB.(Original post by LGF92)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Management required AAA/AAAA as of December 2009. I remember freaking out in maths when one random day I check and they had upped the requirements(Original post by Oh-WOW)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012St Andrews doesn't offer Politics.(Original post by Pygmalion)
I'm applying for Social Anthropology and Politics.
St.Andrews is my first choice!
The closest thing is IR. I made the mistake of thinking that was really similar. -
Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012
Are psychology and french very competitive? Also, for your grades do you have any idea what percentages your A's, B's etc are? Because the requirements in terms of marks on the St. A website aren't very high so I just need to know like the actual comparison.
Thanks, and sorry if this is confusing.

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012
Hey guys, my name is Pete and I'm applying for Modern History at St. Andrews, but I'll probably take Medieval History and English too if I get in.
I loved it when I attended the Open Day in Feb, it is almost exactly like my hometown in Yorkshire. But on the sea and 250 miles away. Just what I want :P.
I can't wait to apply and it's going to be first choice if I'm offered a place.Last edited by DavidLloydGeorge; 22-08-2011 at 21:04. -
Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Almost everything is competitive, and I'm not sure what you mean by that second bit.(Original post by dancing_fool)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012
Hey that's what I got for my AS levels and I got in, and I'm English and did absolutely nothing extra-curricular. Go for it, St Andrews is great!

Last year they got back to the applicants around March I think. They sent you an email saying they were giving you an offer, but it didn't appear on UCAS until about June.Last edited by The Gravity Kid; 24-08-2011 at 17:07.
