Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Corrupt! WTF . Don't apply then(Original post by Meha)
hey =D
I got AAAB for my AS Levels
Do you think its worth applying? I heard that the scottish system is corrupt!
Also, do you know how long they take to get back to you?

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Scottish universities (like all universities) can discriminate by giving preference to local students. Edinburgh for example do give local students a slight advantage (link). St Andrews, however, doesn't. They'd rather take the best students, no matter where they come from(Original post by Meha)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Lol! Thank you for your reply.(Original post by Isabell)
Unfortunately, I cannot answer for these questions cause honestly I don't know
But I think its worth applying and that the scottish system is not so corrupt
Are you also completing your A Levels, or are you a degree student?
I was thinking of taking a gap year to work for Deloitte but I didn't get through; its really competitive! -_- -

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Yeah you still stand a chance, although if you get an offer it will probably be conditional(Original post by bwoodford1)
hey i really want to apply to andrews to do maths but not sure at how competitive it is.. i got 3a's and 2b's at highers so do you think i stand a chance? my personal statement should be quite good because i do a lot outside of school and i am also head girl.
Good luck!

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012Thats ok then(Original post by Meha)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012I'm doing Maths and Physics at St Andrews, and most people have those kind of grades; they're definitely good enough, but it is still very competitive. I have no idea how much they care about extra curricular stuff, but I don't think it's that important (seeing as I didn't do much outside school at all), a lot of it is just luck.(Original post by bwoodford1)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012
wtf why haven't I seen this thread before!?
I'm planning on applying to St. Android's for Biochemistry
anyone around this forum done/doing bio? if so any advice on applications would be welcome especially as I am planning on applying to Natural Sciences for my other choices so I need a carefully worded PS.
Is it a really competetive course? I'm predicted A*A*A*A*A*a in bio, chem, physics, maths, general studies, further maths, respectively but will not having a 100% biochem PS put me at a disadvantage?

You do have good grades so you have a good chance.
You could just apply for French and Spanish and take IR as your third module... -
Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012
I don't think I've posted on here...
Well I'll be applying to St Andrews as it looks amazing, it's pretty, it's not too far away from home but far enough, I love golf and they apparently have a good maths course. I'll be applying for Maths (either BSc or MMath). Pretty good GCSE's and got 5 A's at higher. So yeah =) Any other maths applicants on here yet? *Goes and checks previous posts* -

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2012It's not tiny, but it's still a small town. Come visit and see what you think for yourself(Original post by soup)
Hello everybody. I will (hope to) be applying for Maths & Physics and have AAAAB at higher. Has anyone actually been to St Andrews here? Is it really as small as they say it is?
Some people might think that it's too small, but the majority of people I've spoken to think it's the perfect size.
But I think its worth applying and that the scottish system is not so corrupt
