Wow it has been a while since I last posted!

Well, my current situation is my exams were over with on 18th June, so that's a massive relief.

I haven't applied for student finance as I have been told by teachers and student finance as I don't need to apply for loans hence no bursaries except the NHS Student bursaries. I've heard we are all entitled to £1,000. Is this the minimum or could this be increased depending on income?

Also my passport needs renewing, which could take over a month I think, so when providing evidence what are the alternative evidences, instead of passport.

Oh and I hope everyones exams were ok, especially those who do science, as I think they have been made very difficult this year!

You can get a loan which is non-income assessed from Student Finance, which comes to around £2324 (assuming that you're living away from home) on top of the £1000 grant and income assessed bursary from the NHS.

I haven't been on here in ages! Such a relief that exams are over now I chose Manchester as my firm choice and Manchester Met as my insurance, who else chose them in the end? Also Man Met won't let you choose accommodation if it's not your firm choice, so what happens if I don't get into Manchester, how do we sort out accommodation there?

Yeah I applied to UEA, Manchester, Reading, Leeds and Cardiff - got offers from the last three and withdrew from the first two because I wanted to go to Reading. Just three months til we start now! Can't wait
Hiya, sorry I'm quoting you hear...I got your message about the SLT facebook page for Reading, and I don't think I'm on it. It wouldn't let me reply to your message about it - how do I find it?

I've had mine and just had my evidence back, i'm a bit unsure as to what happens now though. I think you can apply without being invited to but it might cause problems if your course isn't a standard length. It's not too difficult an application although you might want to get all your identity evidence and parental income evidence ready first

You can apply without being invited to - someone asked this question on the NHS facebook page, and the NHS just said they'll update the term length when they receive confirmation from the uni

I'm currently trying to prove that I worked abroad for eight weeks so I can get some funding out them... they're worse than the Student Loan company Sigh.

Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012
    Hi everyone,

I have just finished an Access to HE course and applying through UCAS Extra for a place at City Uni to study SLT - I originally wanted to study Nursing but changed my mind! lol.

Is anyone else here applying for City Uni? I have been waiting 8 weeks for them to get back to me now.. or is anyone sle applying through Extra or Clearing. if I don't get in then I'm taking a year out, moving out of the parental home (hooray!) and getting some paid work and as much experience in SLT as I can and applying for next year, most of my experience is in care homes because I wanted to study nursing although I do have experience with nursery age children, just need to get experience in speech therapy.

Thinking I'd like to apply to UEA, Sheffield, Reading, Newcastle and maybe City.

Where is everyone going? Does anyone have any tips for personal statements and uni's to apply for?

    Thanks in advance!

    Kat

Speaking of NHS bursaries, I got my award notification today and it's all roughly what I expected plus about £80 extra from the extra weeks allowance. I'm suprised how fast they've been with me actually, especially since I had to change my application twice. Are you trying to prove you're an independent student or something like that? Hope you get it all sorted out.

Can I ask how much you received??? I'm really confused as to what we are entitiled to still... do we get the guaranteed £1000 NHS grand PLUS a means tested bursary??

I was under the impression they were kinda the same thing, and so I'd only get my student finance maintenance loan of £1700 (living at home!) plus the NHS grant of £1000. Is there the bursary in addition to this? (I'm hoping so, am hugely panicking about being massively skint!).

I'm in the lowest income bracket so my total award next year is £2591, plus £1000, and a bit extra because my course is longer than usual. The guaranteed £1000 is in addition to the means-tested bursary, yes. In total you'll get £1700 + £1000 + whatever bursary your household income entitles you to
