Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012I did - have had a great day today learnt so much and it is really something I can see myself doing as it is just so interesting! And I work as a Community Support Worker with adults with Learning Disabilities - the house I work in is great as it has a real mix of people: autism, Down's Syndrome, Dementia, Epilepsy and Dysphagia so there is never a dull moment!(Original post by SalC)
Enjoy! What do you do as a job?
Still not heard anything about my postgrad applications apart from acknowledgements I hate the waiting game!
Any other postgrad hopefuls heard anything? -
Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012I'm currently a 3rd year at DMU if you have any questions!!(Original post by perri winkles)
Down to my final choices now and I've one more spot to fill!
Its a toss up between Demontfort, Manchester uni and Birmingham. Does anyone have any info, pros or cons?
I've never been to any of these areas as I'm not from the UK, so anything about the locations that could be a decider?
I don't have any strong feelings towards any of them, although I'm not sure how I like the social approach taken in Birmingham.
Anyways any info welcome
Also another quick question, how did you all get your line count down for PS? I'm well below the character limit at 3,438 but I have 57 lines ! So no idea how I'm gonna get around this one :? -
Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012My teachers are the same with my application. I'm applying to Birmingham City, MMU, UEA, Sheffield and Leeds Met for 2012. I've got two interviews but I have no idea how to go about some of the questions; teachers can't help me because they don't understand what my course is even about. Any advice on this would be great...just the whole process in general really. :/(Original post by juliewho)
Hopefully this will turn into a big support/chat like last years did, not that I read through the whole thing or anything!
I'm applying to Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle, UEA and Leeds met. Been to visit Sheffield and Newcastle and both were fantastic, i'm excited for next year already!
Is anybody else having trouble with teachers not having a clue what your course is? I had to explain it to my UCAS tutor, which isn't encouraging. Also a bit daunted about the tiny number of places, just 28 at Sheffield

Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012Yeah, it's really frustrating, especially when they seem to know everything about every other course. Where do you have interviews from? Or are they written ones?(Original post by EmmaChrissie)

We're all here to help if you have any specific questions, it's like a little family. There's some really good information on the RCSLT website and they update on FB too, and it has a lot about current issues being tackled - it might be a good starting point. Try to tailor your answers to what the uni wants, Manchester for example basically list what they want to see in your application on their website. I know you aren't applying there, but it's still helpful for examples of skills they want to see
Good luck!

Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012Yep you can swap your choice for another uni or get rid of the choice altogether! But julie's right - only 7 days :/(Original post by Spence_LJS)
Oh you can change it on Track? That's interesting, didn't know that! Will have a look into it. And will do!
x
Oh i see what you mean then!(Original post by juliewho)
I live in Doncaster, which is about the same size if you take into account the old market towns (which aren't towns at all, just suburbs where there once was a market
) I've visited Reading before and it doesn't appeal to me in the way a real big city does, like Newcastle.
They're both competing for city status this year incidentally
Loads of pros and cons - it's why i'm finding it so difficult to rank them in order. I've got plenty of time to decide I suppose
Mmmm it's weird to think that even though we're all stressing out about uni we do have almost a year! I keep forgetting that
-
Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012Not that Reading is bad, far from it, I just need a change(Original post by hannahmurph)

I know, it's so far away. If i'm this impatient now, god knows how bad i'll be during the summer when I don't have school to occupy myself with

Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012Birmingham City took about 2 months to contact me with an interview, but that was 2 years ago now, so it may have changed.(Original post by EmmaChrissie)
Does anyone know how long it usually takes to hear from Sheffield Uni? I sent my application off a few weeks ago and I am desperate to hear from there and Birmingham City. Does it usually take quite a while to hear from them? -
Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012Thanks Hannah and Julie. Arhh I can't decide between the two :| Trickytrickytricky...(Original post by hannahmurph)

edit - ahh, looks like you need a science at A-Level though (I only have psychology). That's kinda solved the dilemma then...

that's a shame!
some class psychology as a science though so it might be worth giving them a ring and asking before you completely dismiss it?

Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012Both me and a friend received acknowledgements but we got them in our junk mail, so check in there(Original post by annaheidi)
Hi guys!
I sent my UCAS off 3 weeks ago today and I have not heard anything off UEA.... should I be worried?

I'm currently a 3rd year at DMU if you have any questions!!
What is the uni like itself? and the area? I've only ever been to central London (from Ireland) so have no clue what to expect from Leicester!
Are there many mature students on your course?
What are the clinical placements like? Are you sent to places that are quite far away or is everything close by?
What is rent like in Leicester? I'd be looking at private accomodation with my boyfriend, would there be many places near the uni that are readily available do you think? And is it expensive?
Sorry for so many quiestions

Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012
Also, probably a silly question, but is there any way of sending 2 references through UCAS?
My academic one isn't great but I got a brilliant one from volunteering which makes me sound much better then the academic one
Would love to include it, but not sure if I can. Thought I'd double check
-
Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012I don't think there's a way to send 2 references through UCAS, but I think that some universities let you send additional information? Worth ringing your choices and asking them if you could post out the second reference. Good luck =)(Original post by perri winkles)

Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012Oooh I did TEFL in India for 4 months, it was amazing! I highly recommend going there if you ever get the chance. But like you said it can be pricey, you're definitely not going to go there and make money! Korea is pretty class all right, bloody cold now though. -7 degrees today and only going to get colder.(Original post by dibdobmichaela)
I completed my TEFL, did a bit of work in primary schools with it, originally planned to go to India and use it, but funds wouldn't allow. Bet Korea is amazing- jealous! I'm not too bothered about doing a 4 year course, more time to plan and do the dissertation!! I'm not looking forward to doing that again!
I think I'm going to put down 2 four year courses as well just to hopefully give myself options, but I'm not sure which yet. Does anyone know which ones DON'T have interviews?Last edited by dapto1; 24-11-2011 at 00:18. -
Re: Speech and Language Therapy entry 2012I don't think Newcastle interview for undergrad =) Neither of the Scottish unis that do SLT interview either if you want to venture north =)(Original post by dapto1)
