Does TSR or has TSR ever had a book club?
I would think a book club would work well on TSR, a book chosen, everyone in the club reviews it and then posts up their thoughts and discusses aspects.

Could work for academic books too.

Well, yeah. They have a social group but I'm not sure if it's still going or not - http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/group.php?groupid=1128

    tbh no thanks.

Only books I read is revision books, anything else is boring imo.

I'm sure others would agree with me.
First you launch a scathing attack on films, and now books. Anybody would think you're not cultured, mangoh.

From what I've seen of the several that ran, the people involved often lose interest. I think the biggest problem is that deadlines to read the book have to be quite a way down the line, in order for people to be able to participate, and then they're often so far in advance (around a month or so, in a few cases) that people forget!

If the book being reviewed is one that people are interested enough in, and the deadline is a strict week/two weeks away, then I think they'd work well. Would need someone to chase members and keep it active, though.

the biggest reason though is if we are all to busy reading books so we can 'review' them...

Won't that mean less time on TSR?

So all in all, sorry CJ but I'm out.
Less time on TSR is probably desirable for most people

    ha

I've cut back since I got rejected for my mod application. I'm still confused as to why but I take back what I said about 'only' revision books.

CJ - Do you think TSR will ever develop a book, I might consider reading that
Why do you want to be a mod so much? Loads of extra work, people blaming you for things which may or may not (usually may not) be your fault, you have to have a purple name etc.

You don't gain any real importance because of it, and nobody thinks mods are worth any more respect than anyone else by virtue of their position. You don't really gain much at all beyond a lifetime sub and an invitation to the party weekend acumen throws each year. Yes you can bully people who give a **** about warnings and so on and throw your weight around a bit if you want but you will just be removed or people will think you are an even bigger prat than many already do.

People who apply generally do so because they think they have something to add, it seems like you want to do it just to be a mod as an end in itself which seems strange because you gain very little but are expected to contribute quite a lot. :dontknow:
