Ask a current Brighton student
Hello,
I'm Nyika and I'm a 3rd year Geography student at Brighton Uni. Having experienced 2 years of the town and university, and because, lets be honest, I'm really bored, I am here to answer any question you might have about Brighton Uni or Brighton as a city, from halls to the disability and dyslexia team to where's the best place to go clubbing (the jury's still out!).
So fire away! Any other Brighton students are of course more than welcome to post here too

Re: Ask a current Brighton studentSounds like your average cycle ride up Lewes Road or the seafront! Um, mainly I cycle to meetings at the Cowley Club, and I go on Critical Mass cycle rides.(Original post by TKC)
What does an anarcho-cyclist get up to.
Is it weaving crazily around tourists, glass and cars in the cycle lanes? -
Re: Ask a current Brighton studentI have a question if you don't mind. What is the easiest and cheapest way to get to the Moulsecoomb campus from Brighton station? Bus or train?(Original post by Nynyflower)

Re: Ask a current Brighton studentThe bus is £1.60 single, £3.80 all day, or £10 all week so that's the cheapest. The train is £2.60 return but is a bit quicker. Both are really easy, if you walk down the hill from the station you can get a number 24 or 25 bus (or a 49 but you have to get off at Natal Road). You can also get the Big Lemon from Old Steine, which is at the bottom of North Street, which will set you back just £2.50 for a whole day's travel.(Original post by jami74)

Re: Ask a current Brighton studentI know I'm thinking slightly prematurely here, but I'm really interested in taking the BSc (or BA!) geography course at Brighton Uni - my geography teacher studied the exact course and speaks very favourably of it!(Original post by Nynyflower)

Was just wondering what offer you were made, and what your grades were at A-level? And what has the course actually been like? Thanks a bunch!

Re: Ask a current Brighton student
If I end up coming to Brighton, I'm going to be based at Eastbourne for purposes of placements (have been advised by BU Accommodation that I should therefore live in Eastbourne) but will need to travel to Falmer for lectures. What's the best way (and how much) to travel Eastbourne to Falmer? Thanks
-
Re: Ask a current Brighton studentPersonally, I love my course and couldn't imagine being at uni anywhere else, the fieldtrips are both amazing and reasonable and the lecturers are very accessible and helpful, they always seem to have time for you. However, there are lots of people on my course who are pretty, um, apathetic, and go on about the course being "****" a lot. I really believe this is just because they don't really have much of a passion for the subject; any course is rubbish if you don't enjoy what you're learning. My offer was CCC, dropped from the entry requirements of BCC at the time. I've been informed that the entry requirements are going up to BBB, which I think accurately represents the quality of the course, and also might attract people who are more interested in the subject (although saying this, I would not have got in!)(Original post by Paramore<3)

I'm going to guess going by train would be easiest, you might be able to get some sort of student pass, and having a railcard is a must! There are regular trains to both Eastbourne and Falmer, and some direct ones as well. With a railcard, a return is £5.35, so not too bad really. I'm afraid I can't tell you much more as I've never been to Eastbourne on the train.(Original post by glf2110)

Re: Ask a current Brighton studentIf you're already in the station, say you're commuting to Brighton from London, it'd be much simpler to just hop across to platform 8 and the journey to Moulsecoomb is 5 minutes. Maybe if you've got a ticket between X and Brighton 'by any route permitted' it'd theoretically cover you on that journey anyway. If not there aren't any barriers at Moulsecoomb anyway.(Original post by jami74)

Re: Ask a current Brighton studentAwesome, sounds brilliant. The apathy is bound to be everywhere isn't it?(Original post by Nynyflower)

Thanks for starting this thread. It's great to have a current student to answer questions for us. I've got a question about halls. I've been put in Great Wilkins, Falmer halls, do you know anything about them? I'll be studying at grand parade (which wasn't ideal, phoenix was my first choice, but im happy ive got halls and an ensuite room), what would you say was the cheapest way to travel to college everyday from there? Can you get like cheap student fares on bus and train?
Thanks!

Re: Ask a current Brighton studentThe cheapest and easiest way is to get the bus, you can get a week's pass on the Brighton and Hove buses for £10 a week and a week's pass on the Big Lemon bus for £8 a week. You would need to get the 25 on the B&H buses.(Original post by Queenie_pie)

I have never been to the Falmer halls but Falmer is a lovely campus. I was in Varley, which is far more no frills! -
