i found in my first year there were 5 girls to about 60 guys, 2 of these girls were like 28-30 so they had their own "mature" thing going on, and the others weren't in my labs so I never met them.

Its uni tho so you just go out and meet people, freshers was the most fun ever, just cause you could introduce your self as a fresher and other people did the same.. Ive started to say im on a different course tho, most of the time because girls seem to stereotype when you say computer science and that leads to them expecting you to be bad a socialising etc (whole nerdy thing) so I just say im doing Pharmacy or Bio Science lol, def helps a bit.

I'm another girl who's supposed to be doing CS & Artificial Intelligence starting this year (wouldn't deem myself as "unattractive" & I know some guys would agree with me)

When I went along to open days & so on I was the only girl every time.

I'm not particularly bothered about it though as firstly I'm there to study and secondly I've gotten used to being the only girl in the last two years in a class at college!

This thread seems to be centred around the problems people assume they will have in meeting girls because they are doing a CS degree, so I have a question for you - would you date a guy on your course? Bearing in mind you'll see them everyday and would have to spend lots of time with them if (god forbid...) it didn't work out? I don't think it's worth the hassle personally.

No because I have a boyfriend who I've been with for a very long time

But speaking from another girls' point of view who say didn't have a boyfriend I wouldn't NOT date him because he was on my course or because he studied CS.

I don't think someone thinks that far ahead when they get into a relationship. I personally don't anyway.

You do know that you can go outside the uni?

have you forgotten about pubs, clubs, halls and the canteen?

I'm glad there's actually a discussion about this, I've been wondering for ages!
I'm going to Queen's University Belfast in September and although I was wondering if the radio was gonna be a bit off, the more I think about it, the more I don't mind. I will meet plenty of people in Halls of Residence, who cares if there's only a few girls on my course? I generally find that if I have to work in a team, it's easier to work with guys anyway. Girls are usually controlling and bitchy (yes, I know that's stereotypical, but that's my experience), I'm laid back so working with more guys than girls might just suit me fine!
In terms of the whole unattractive girls doing CS thing, shame on you lot! Were you never taught to never judge a book by it's cover? You'll not know if the girls are unattractive until you actually start your course! And every uni is different... for example I checked and QUB's ratio is 76:24

At my place theres like 3 girls and even then none are too good looking. One is alright but all the geeky guys (who have probably never been so close to a female before are all over her). Its quite funny to watch although I do hate my course because of the people on it, the squeaky voiced guys who look like theyve just hit puberty and the freaks who sit on WoW all day (and openly admit it) just do my head in.
I knew I shouldve applied for economics instead...

Does it really matter? The course is for your academic interests, if you want to meet girls go out and socialize, the same as everywhere.

This.
I have a few good friends on the course, but most people i meet outside of the course.

Lol I was talking to a girl at work and she said the exact same thing :colone:
Didn't want to start a new thread but...I'm guessing this is the same with engineering subjects?
