Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 EntryI know registered paramedic's without one. As has been said if they weren't happy with your qualifications they wouldn't have offered you an interview.(Original post by Deedee11)
Thats right, you would need to have a formal numeracy qualification in order to register with the HPC, its the same with nursing courses due to meds calculations etc -
Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 Entryi suppose thats true, i will just have to see what they say when i go tomorrow. could you give me some details about your selection day please cause i am stressing over it.(Original post by hollyfb)
They may do, but I agree they wouldn't have invited you to selection day if they had no intention of potentially offering you a place! Just might mean you have to put in some extra work before starting or during the course. If your selection day is like mine there is a numeracy test (should say in all the paperwork you were sent!) so I'm guessing having some numeracy skills is important to them. Good luck tomorrow, I have firmed Worcester so maybe see you in September if all goes well
ah yes, i hope i get in so i may see you

Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 EntryAll you need to know is in the stuff they sent out, (honest!) - the day happens exactly as it is set out in there - numeracy test, group task and the written task, and then an interview after lunch if you complete the morning tasks satisfactorily! I can't go listing exact questions etc. as it's not fair to others but to be honest I felt as though most of the questions asked, and answers I gave, were very much centred around my experiences and me anyway so would most probably be irrelevant to you and your situation if that makes sense (I'm waaaaay older unfortunately and have never done any work with St. Johns for a start!) Just have a think about your experiences and how they make you a good candidate for the course (and will ultimately mean you will make a good paramedic), be yourself and keep calm! I actually really enjoyed the morning tasks and met some really nice people so don't panic!!(Original post by cadderz5)

Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 EntryIn fairness if you could get a level 2 numeracy qualification it would be useful. Even if it was just key skills.(Original post by cadderz5)

Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 Entrywell i have a level 2 in functional skills maths, hopefully that will help(Original post by Happy_Holidays)

Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 Entry(Original post by cadderz5)
hey, i am applying to worcester university to do pre-hospital unscheduled and emergency care. i have a selection day tomorrow and i just wondered if anyone has any advice?
i am currently studying my A levels, psychology, sociology and english language. i do not have a GCSE in maths, will this be a problem? i do have a functional skills qualification though. i have been a member of st John ambulance for 8/9 years now and obtain many hours of duty and have had first hand experiences in emergency care. i do not have much more experience. i have completed my grand prior award and now that i am an adult i teach first aid within my division, also i help the brownies and other organisations to pass their first aid badges. so basically just wondering if you can give me a heads up on what to say, whats going to happen? thank you.
hey,
im going to the worcester day tomorrow too, your the only other person ive seen put on here that theyre going
i have to set off at 4:30 am :s long day haha. try not to worry, everyone ive spoken too about worcester say its a lovely place and so are the people. im really looking forward too it tbh, just hope they like me! good luck

Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 Entrythe qualifications people already on the register hold do not reflect the qualifications required for entry , otherwise everyone would be forced to upgrade there's still plenty of 'six week course' NHSTD /IHCD paramedics on the register but they wouldn't be able to enter the register at that point - as the LAS / EMAS 'none academic' student paras still have to produce extra work over the traditional IHCD route ( module J ? ) ditto with the Scottish scheme although that is moving to HE.(Original post by Happy_Holidays)
I know registered paramedic's without one. As has been said if they weren't happy with your qualifications they wouldn't have offered you an interview.
the same applies with all the other HPC professions and Nursing and midwifery, the only Health profession that has not changed its entry to the register requirements , in terms of academic level required, for many years is medicine , although content requirement shave changed as have course structures even in 'traditional' ( i.e. preclinical / clinical split) structure Medicine degrees -
Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 EntryHowever, what I am saying is the HPC do not ask for a Grade B in Maths for example. They ask for a Cert HE (soon to be DipHE or FdSc). The uni's are the one's that ask for grades in specific subjects so they can see the person can cope with the content of the course.(Original post by zippyRN)

Re: Paramedic Practice/Science-2012 Entry
Super happy! Second year appyling, and after 5 interviews and months of waiting and nail biting, I'm on two waiting lists (Greenwich Avery Hill and St Georges), have one application pending after interview (Hertfordshire) and two offers (Greenwich Medway and Portsmouth).
Looks like this is finally happening! Hang in there you guys who are still waiting - keep trying, and you'll get there! I've been on the waiting list for Medway for a while now, and finally got the good news today - so all is not lost for those still on waiting lists.
Good luck to everyone still waiting!
