Re: Favourite Female SingerSince when has gender had a bearing on how talented a singer a person is? If someone can sing then they can sing, male or female.(Original post by farrokh_bulsarah)
Lol come on bro female singers have never been ANY WHERE NEAR on par with male singers. Never be a female Mercury, a female Lennon, a female Jackson, a female Sinatra, a female Elvis etc lol this thread is not worthy of existing. -
Re: Favourite Female Singer
There aren't that many female artists in my music collection but here are some good suggestions.
Joni Mitchell - I use the word "legend" sparingly; Joni Mitchell is what I would call a legend. Blue is probably one of those records I'd take with me on a desert island.
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love is another one of my favourite albums.
Bjork - An experimentalist with a fantastic voice.
PJ Harvey - Has been consistently good since the 90's. "Let England Shake" is probably the best album of this year.
Patti Smith - Only have her 1975 debut album "Horses" but it's amazing!
The problem rests in the fact that female artists were heavily under-represented back in the day when the music industry was decent. We have plenty of good female voices nowadays, but a good voice does not define a good artist.Last edited by Magical Moogles; 30-07-2011 at 22:22. -

Blue is a flawless album. I don't know if I would take it with me to a dessert island though, it's a bit too heartbreaking!
Agree about P.J Harvey too, definitely the best album I've heard this year.
Other favourites:
Judee Sill
Dusty Springfield
The Supremes/Diana Ross
Amy Winehouse
Billie Holliday
Can't work out how to post videos

Re: Favourite Female SingerI think there is a reason for this (not that females aren't good enough). Perhaps some sexism in the music industry? Especially nowadays when all female artists are expected to be gorgeous with amazing bodies.(Original post by farrokh_bulsarah)

Re: Favourite Female SingerThat's funny, cos I'm the exact opposite!(Original post by Lewroll)
Browsing through my music library I realise most of the artists I have are male and the girls didn't pop up that much. Is that the same with everyone else?
I created an image wall for the 1st 3 pages of my Last.fm library:
Spoiler:Show
And bar Justin Timberlake, only female vocalists pop up!
I refuse to pick an absolute fave tbh as I'm quite indecisive. But if you want to put it solely down to number of plays, then Lady Gaga obviously wins hands down
