sorry i may have misquoted him i was in the afternoon session with dr steve ball when were you there?

Sorry yeah you're right - no idea where I got 800 from.

The info I wrote down from the talk: (not sure what year this was from)

3590 applicants
1259 interviews
~380 offers for 352 places
meaning an applicant to place ratio of about 10:1

Are you sure they only give out 28 more offers than they have places?

Well, what he said was that they try and match it so that they don't end up with more people than places, and he sort of went 'ohh well, it'll probably be somewhere in the region of 370 or 380. It was the answer to a question from one person, so it wasn't something he was sure about.

I e-mailed them recently and they hit me with this:

Do you think places have gone down?

thank you

Last year's figures were apparently: 970 UK/EU students interviewed for 206 places and 89 international students interviewed for 19 places.

Although they didn't tell me how many offers they made :frown:
I hope it's double the number of places.

Each uni is just as competitive as one another.

Very good point! Do you think they distribute the 'Either's to make them similar competitiveness?

It would make reasonable good sense to do this. But who knows dude. They keep their cards close to their chest. It's hard to say with certainty. I'd advise to go with which you like better based on curriculum, location, what suits you ect...
Should I even bother applying with an average of 703 in the UKCAT? :/

Why not? The cutoff was only 675 last year.

I'm just afraid that the cutoff will be 30+ the previous years average, as it has been for the past few years. I think it's just pre-UCAS nerves :/
There's no need to include module scores on the UCAS form for Newcastle is there?

I don't think so. That table says there were 8.7 applicants per place for Newcastle, and 5.5 for Durham. That's the ones they "considered", not the ones who specified Newcastle or Durham, so it would include all the either's. Durham is normally less competitive as the location is considered a fair bit worse. I don't think those numbers are unusual at all.

Not worth applying with a UKCAt of 645 right. :frown:

It won't be +30 this year - in a couple of years, you'll have a cutoff of 800 by that reasoning.

Apparently GEM cut off is 702.5 this year, which is always higher than undergraduate. Most likely 685-690
