    Driving Lessons
How many driving lessons did you take before you passed? Or how many hours did you need before you passed? My instructor seems to think I'll need 80-100 hours! Is that too much?

I did 6 months of mainly 2 hour lessons, so that's mid forties I reckon
Ignore your instructor and book your test when you feel ready

EDIT: I passed first time with 2 minors, so I think it was worth it, even though it was soo expensive. And I was pretty crap (still am sometimes... haha)

    Re: Driving Lessons
I had 18 (19 including the hour before my test). My instructor booked my test on the 10th hour and there was no way I thought I was ready! I think you should book your test just after starting to learn your manoeuvres as it gives you focus, most waiting lists for tests are about 6 weeks, and if you have a lesson once a week and twice a week in the build up for your test most people are fine. One day you will wake up with the confidence to drive! It's like riding a bike lol.

    It's closer to 60, actually.

And that is absolutely terrible advice! If any pupil ignores me and books their test, they can also find another car to go and do it in.

Absolutely the worst situation for a learner who is having difficulties to be in is put themselves under pressure to be ready for a test they have booked. They tell all their friends, and don't want to lose face by moving it and admitting they aren't ready.

Everyone is different - some people actually NEED 40+, 60+, even 100+ hours, and the advice to "ignore your instructor" is even more useless for them.

The best thing any learner can do is concentrate on learning. If you are progressing well, THEN you can think about the test.

The test is a measure of your learning. It isn't something you can do in spite of your learning.

Alright, calm down. I said mainly 2 hours, I did some 1 hour lessons, so don't tell me how many lessons I did!
If the student feels like the instructor is ripping them off, which they do sometimes, then they can ignore them. I know everyone is different, that's why I said book the test when they feel ready, not book the test because you feel like it. OP wouldn't be asking if they weren't concerned, you're arguing against points I didn't make!

    I had around 30..
80-100 sounds like a LOT, you must either be a crap driver or your instructor wants your money!

I stopped counting a long time ago, but I'm probably over that and still haven't booked my test. My only excuse is I had breaks in between while I was away at uni, wanted to keep my instructor.

    Re: Driving Lessons
I'm going away to Uni so I feel obliged to pass my test before I leave. I've had 10 hours and booked my test for end Sept. Hopefully if I take 4 hours a week from now and my test, I should pass right..? Or should I simply just wait until next year when I have more time?
