I'd be tempted by that if it wasn't going to cost the earth for me to get there. A lot of the folks in the picture look like "interesting" people too I wonder how many aren't on some sort of narcotic...

Heh, I managed to stay awake for 3 days and that wouldn't have been possible without the aid of certain concoctions... I don't like the term 'narcotic' though, it has negative connotations and is actually a term for sleep-inducing drugs. Psychedelics, like LSD, are usually the most widely used drugs at these events, as well as weed and stimulants like MDMA and speed. Most people trip though.

I thought they might be. They don't interest me much. I take no real issue if people want to use them safely on their own. I don't like people trying to persuade me to take them though - I don't lecture people to not do drugs (unless it's obviously doing them a lot of harm) and in return I expect to be left in peace to do my own thing.

In this thread that's true, though I have had experiences before where even friends have tried to persuade/peer pressure me into taking LSD/weed/2C-E/MDMA.

Any reason you don't take them? I respect people for not taking drugs by bowing into peer pressure, but MDMA is harmless if you know what you're doing and just is a necessity for any big night to keep going and to make it more epic than it is. And weed too. I would love to go to a psytrance rave. Tribe of frog nights, or rave in the woods great stuff. yet to go to any raves in woods, but there's been quite a few around bristol lately which i have missed sadly

For one reason I fear my reaction. I don't like losing control, and I struggle to control potentially dangerous thoughts even when my mind is clear.

Fair enough MDMA isn't seriously bad for that though unless you get really drunk which will cause md black spots. But i haven't taken LSD and i'm in 2 minds whether i would like to take it or not one day.

I was only referring to LSD in my previous post. I have no interest in the effects of MDMA. Sorry for any confusion - I'm very tired!

This is amazing! I'm South African and it's now 'Trance season'. Every weekend for the next three months there is a psytrance party or two! South African artists are actually world-class in the psytrance genre.

EarthDance is the only trance party I've attended, when I was on holiday in South Africa. It is an event in September that has 'Earth Hour' at exactly the same time at many locations across the world. I have been looking for similar parties in the UK but haven't found many examples until now. Have you heard about Glade Festival? Are there any other psytrance parties on the mainland?

The trance parties in South Africa are usually on a beach or a mountainous or Forrest escape, far from much civilization except for small villages. Drugs are massive there and everyone openly takes them. Police only nail those that enter with drugs or leave tripping still so you have nothing to worry about on location besides overdose. Many of the festivals there have grown massive, eg. Earthdance had around 7000 people there this year and 3 outdoor arenas, one of them being an 'electro' tent with all other electronic music other than psytrance.

It was great, because the first night I was simply drunk and had a great (although shorter) night at the electro tent, jamming to dubstep, etc. The following night I tried MDMA for the first time and didn't want anything other than psytrance! And I've never like psytrance sober or drunk before that! But now I'm hooked and reminisce with psytrance on my ipod regularly.

I've now written quite an essay... sorry about that. I got carried away in my excitement.


Just want to know what the psytrance following is like in the UK. And where the parties are at? And whether you think I could ever in a million years start a psytrance/dubstep/non-commercial electronic music night at Durham university. Which at the moment is dominated by cheesey music (which I like now and then, but there has got to be limits!)

Any case of drug possession is never really a good idea. But if you have a lot where they think you might be dealing then you could go down big time. Usually you''ll just get a slap on the wrist if a bouncer finds you with it or something. But it's not something that gets looked for, so you'll be fine with it in the UK. They can also do nothing to you if you are using. They need the actual physical evidence. Basically it's a case of be clever (and not really stupid) and don't take excessive amounts out with you! Case with MD is for me house music is what really does it for me and i can't think of much better feelings when enjoying it. Different for everyone's tastes really. I kind of think i would need to be on more for psytrance as it's so ****ing mental, but i haven't really tried much else currently!

No idea with Durham, but if it has at least one alternative sort of club as most cities will do, then there should be a market there for that.

Hey there, dood. Nice post!

There are ****loads of psytrance parties in the UK, London being the hub of the scene with a psytrance squat party (or outdoor in the summer) every weekend and often a club night too. Parties elsewhere in the UK are not very often - Bristol is probably the best place for psytrance outside of London, but there are a number of parties in other towns and cities, though they don't occur very frequently.

Mate, Kindzadza is playing in London on March 10th, at the Late Blossom party. Psykovsky also played here back in December. I wish Furious would get booked to play over here... his music is stellar! His Crazy Astronaut project is a bit hit-and-miss, though, IMO.

Anyway, check out http://www.psymusic.co.uk for information about London psytrance parties. There's a calendar somewhere on the website you can use to find parties. There are psytrance squat parties every weekend... outdoor parties in the summer...

By the way, I'm always hearing of good parties at the UV Bar in Goa. Seems like there are lots of dark psy parties there!
