Re: PC Gaming SocietyLaptops have much worse cooling systems, and semiconductors work worse at higher temperatures, so your laptop will heat up a lot (until it is capable of burning if you hold your hand against it for too long) and run slower than a desktop of the same specs would after an extended period playing.(Original post by Oh my Ms. Coffey)
How bad is gaming on a laptop for long periods?
The heating also causes long-term damage to the chips, so gaming for prolonged periods will cause your laptop to die a death faster than if you didn't game.
If it's an undemanding, older game of course you'll have no such problems, and there will be no measurable difference to a desktop and no measurable long-term damage.
Also, be careful not to rest it on a surface that burns easily and keep anything that you don't want getting hot away from the air vents. -

Re: PC Gaming SocietyWow isn't exactly the most demanding games in terms of graphics, I'm not sure how it is on cpu power, there's a lot of AI scripts and calculations to run.(Original post by Oh my Ms. Coffey)

Best to try it out and, after about half-an-hour's gameplay see how hot it's getting underneath, and how hot the air coming out of the vents is. If you're able to hold your hand there comfortably then you're probably ok. -
Re: PC Gaming Society
My laptop's fps goes extremely low on my laptop while playing online games. Which is why I have a laptop cooler, it works like a charm and my FPS is always above 60 and my temperature for my GPU is always in the 60c on load. Without it though my FPS dips into the 20's when the heat kicks in.

Re: PC Gaming SocietyIt plays the game at 100-240FPS on Ultra depending on where I'm at, its quite hot but not massively hot maybe a bit below a radiator.(Original post by The Mr Z)

Re: PC Gaming SocietyYeah, that's fine, unless you have very hot radiators.(Original post by Oh my Ms. Coffey)

Probably best to check it after a few hours to make sure it's not getting too hot by then. If it does, if you can cap the FPS somehow that's probably easiest, you don't ever really need more than 60fps -
Re: PC Gaming SocietyYeah about that.

Re: PC Gaming SocietyI have his Jade Empire soundtrack, just great! =D(Original post by mevidek)
Mass Effect 2 has amazing music. Can't wait for Mass Effect 3 and Red Orchestra 2... Not only will they be great games, they have soundtracks composed by the amazing Jack Wall. -
Re: PC Gaming Societyrounding up/down a bit?(Original post by Psyk)
Also 10GB is kind of an unusual number. If the memory is dual channel, then how can you have matching modules to make up 10GB? -
Re: PC Gaming SocietyHe probably put it in twice by mistake. More importantly, they wouldn't fit. I would swap the SSD with a much better gfx card.(Original post by KeineHeldenMehr)
2 ssd's? gah, what are the benefits of that atm?
And I would never buy a big gaming laptop anyway (unless I was super rich) as I would just use that money to buy a better desktop.Last edited by refref; 12-09-2011 at 15:15. -
Re: PC Gaming SocietyI'm used to thinking in powers of 2, so to me it seems really strange to round something to 10(Original post by The Mr Z)
rounding up/down a bit?
Why wouldn't they fit? I agree it's pointless having two though. I guess you could RAID them, but I don't think many people really need hard disk access that fast.(Original post by refref)
