Er, no. The steam summer sale has only been running for two years so far, starting on June 24th in 2010 and June 30th in 2011. There wasn't a summer sale in 2009 or earlier, and this year's sale is starting later than both previous sales finished, so it's always varied and it's a long way off falling on "dates it usually is". Developers HAVE agreed, Valve have confirmed that there will be a sale and there are things in the Steam registry already in anticipation for an upcoming sale (including 11 indie bundles)
Link to this info? I havnt seen any of this. And they did do summer sales before 09...

Well apparently the only thing on sale this year is going to be a few indy games and that is it. Nothing worth getting excited about, not really a summer sale.

•Victoria Franchise Bundle - Victoria, Victoria 2 & DLC, Victoria 2: A House Divided expansion pack ($99 placeholder)

    Possibles:
•2K Games & Rockstar "Public Released" Pack (may not be a pack but recently updated) - no price yet - Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Borderlands & DLC, Bully, Civilization IV Complete, Civilization V & DLC, Civ V Gods and Kings, CivCity: Rome, Darkness II, Duke Nukem Forever & DLC, Freedom Force Pack, Grand Theft Auto series, LA Noire, Mafia II & DLC, Max Payne 1 and 2 (not 3 though), Manhunt, Midnight Club 2, MLB series, NBA series, Railroad Tycoon 2, Railroad Tycoon 3, Shattered Union, Sid Meier's Pirates!, Sid Meier's Railroads!, SpecOps: The Line, Stronghold Pack, X-ComCollection
•Activision Pack (may not be a pack but recently updated) - no price yet - Everything, including MW3
•SEGA "Public Compilation" Pack (recently updated but may not be a pack in the sale) - no price yet - MegaDrive / Genesis Classics Collection, Aliens vs Predator, Alpha Protocol, Dreamcast Collection, Football Manager series, London 2012, Total War series, Sega Rally, The Club, The Incredible Hulk, The Golden Compass, Universe at War, Vancouver 2010, Virtua Tennis 2009
•Ubisoft Public (probably not a pack, but updated in the last couple of days so who knows) - no price yet - Everything on Steam (6 pages of it, too much to list)

And those are just the bundles, it doesn't include individual games in daily deals (which has happened in every Steam sale for the past year or two), nor are the lists complete - it doesn't include things added to the Steam registry in the past couple of days such as the Rockstar Hit Collection, the Shogun 2 Collection or the Fable III Collection.
These are all bundle packs again... and indy games >.> nothing of real use if you have a little of everything. we will just see

But those are the things that go on sale over the entire steam sale - it has been like that for ages. And then on top of that you get 10+ daily deals on individual games/small packs.

And by the looks of it, it'll be utter hell to update since they've got these "flash sales" that are only lasting for a few hours so odds are that if you sleep at all over the next 11 days then you'll miss the odd item or two :p:

Anyone got any RTS games to recommend to me? Specifically, games focused in the past/ancient games. For example, similar version to the Age of Empires games?

The Total War series might interest you. Rome: Total War and Medieval 2: Total War in particular.

Goddamn Ubisoft and their piece of **** DRM :argh:

Wanted to play Assassin's Creed 2 last night. It was already installed but had a few corrupted files, so Steam took a minute to download those. Ubisoft's Game Launcher then popped up and took 25 minutes telling me "Patching, please wait". Then UPlay popped up asking for my email address and password. I tried every email address I had, to no avail. I knew I had an account as although I couldn't remember UPlay being part of AC2, I did have to create an account to play Splinter Cell: Conviction. Clicked on the Create New Account button and it asked for username, email and password. I typed in my normal username and it said it was already taken (no surprise there, it just confirmed that I had already created an account)...went back, on a hunch tried putting the username in the box that was asking for my email, and finally got logged into UPlay. UPlay then took 10 minutes downloading files of its own (:motz:). Because of their crappy DRM it took me 40 minutes just to get the game started up.

Then this morning UPlay crashed. The game then refused to let me continue playing because it couldn't connect to Ubisoft's servers (which it can't because UPlay, the program maintaining a connection to the servers, was no longer running). Ubisoft are a bunch of incompetent bastards

Yep same thing happened to me with Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Really puts me off any more Ubisoft games on PC but then there are gonna be games like Far Cry 3 and Splinter Cell: Blacklist which are hard to turn down :/

Eurgh this makes me want to turn down AC3 on PC. Might just be better if I spend a little more to get my PS3 connected up to my HD monitor.

    Re: PC Gaming Society
****ing Ubisoft and AC2 again  Loaded up the game yesterday having done most of the stuff in Venice...and the save was from a point around half-way through Venice, with random things I'd bought even earlier in the game (like the large medicine pouch) not recognised as having been bought as well. Pissed off, I quit. I loaded up the game today, thinking "Ah well, at least it's not too far back, I can just play through Venice and skip the extra stuff like the glyph puzzles and all that"...but today my save was waaaay back at the Villa, costing me several hours of gameplay. Judging by posts on other forums, this is a very well-known and long-standing bug that's affected several people, yet when some have tried to contact Ubisoft over the years they were either given rather awkward responses as if it was something only afflicting them or they were pointed to "solutions" that didn't actually do anything positive. Literally, Ubisoft's technical support advise going into a certain folder and deleting a save file. Presumably the intended behaviour is that when the game doesn't find that file it looks for another one. I tried that, and the game unsurprisingly didn't think I had a save already. I restored it and I'm still back at the villa.

I'm really torn here. Part of me wants to continue onwards (though given this bug I think I'll have to seriously consider doing the whole lot in one go and not risking the game screwing me over) because I want to play Brotherhood and Revelations as well but I want to see the finale of AC2's story before moving on to the newer games...but this bug has only further fuelled my vitriolic hatred of Ubisoft because I suspect this is partly (if not wholly) down to their DRM again, because AC2 synchronises its saves with the Uplay cloud and I think it's not doing this correctly. As I said in my previous post: Incompetent bastards. The whole goddamned lot of them.

    Hey guys!

I am trying to play to play the steam version of The Witcher and Two Worlds offline. Since I will not have internet for a while. However, Every time I try to launch the game I get the message 'failed to contact key server.' Is there any way around this?

To go offline I do go online first and then go offline and I have got my sign-in credentials saved.

I have played both games online and have verified both files, also other games such as Trine work offline.

So both games work fine when Steam's in online mode but not when they're in offline mode? That's...odd :s:

I may have just wasted some money :ninja: Bought Binary Domain in the daily deal, but apparently it's a really crappy port of the console versions. Taken from PC Gamer's review:
The UI designer may never have seen a keyboard: I wasn't even able to identify the icon used to represent 'Tab' during the tutorial. How do I reach the main menu? Oh, that's right, it's 'Enter'. Of course. There's no mouse movement on the menus - WASD to navigate and 'F' to go back. Obviously, in-game, 'F' is the interact key - except when interact is 'Space'. Not that the game tells you this, because the default in-game prompts are those for a 360 control pad, whether or not your input scheme is set to keyboard. Want to change the in-game prompts? Just quit the game, load the separate settings application then restart.
The patch's changelog says that menu navigation now uses cursor keys, escape and return, but that appears to be the only thing of all that which has been fixed. I'm just hoping it turns out at least a little better than the review's making it out to be.
