anyone else annoyed with myerscough accommodation?

Hi  Myerscough is my firm and i will be studying bsc animal welfare and behaviour....I received my accommodation pack at the end of july, filled it in and sent it off the next day...don't hear anything for over a week and then return home to an answerphone message saying that self catering accommodation is full...this leaves me with the option of shared catering or trying to arrange a possible house/flat share....
this is a bit of a problem as i rlly rlly don't want to go for catering as i don't fancy living off canteen food (not because im fussy or stuck up:smile:, and i rlly wouldn't have a clue where to start looking for other accommodation. Looking on the internet i have found student housing etc in the centre of preston but ive heard its a fair journey out to myerscough and i don't no anyone who would possibly be interested in house/flat sharing...
Tried contacting myerscough for information but it just rings out:s-smilie:

Don't no if its just me but i havent received any information regarding my course...freshers week...equipment etc, is this normal?
Any information regarding accommodation or the college would be appreciated

Myerscough do tend to be a little lacking on the getting back to you department...i started the fdsc welfare of animals course and took a gap year out before finishing. I applied to resume the course this september...and i only got a letter today saying i have a conditional place but i need to apply through ucas too!! so i havent really been left a lot of time to apply for finance or anything!! :frown:

myerscough is a really nice place though, i really enjoyed it.i lived in halls the 1st year and although it was great for getting to lessons, it did feel a bit isolated as its a bit of a trek to get the bus into town which was murder and extortion for going on nights out in preston! and there's no nightlife or anything actually on campus (the stumble inn went a bit crap and downhill when i lived in, dont know if it's any better now!).:s-smilie:

Theres 2 uni buses that leave from the bus station and train station that get there in time for lessons which i prefer, although it means getting up earlier and getting home a bit later i'd rather live in preston and able to get to town and shops and things easier and just get the bus to uni.

sorry to hear they mucked you about with the accomodation though :frown: .any joy with sorting it?

Hi... well i decided to take the catering option as like you said its easy for getting to lessons etc and i wasn't left with very much time to sort out alternative accommodation..
It seemed like a really nice place when i visited on open day and when i returned for my interview...just a quick question...what is the teaching standard like?
I've also been worrying about the whole nightlife situation as i don't go out much now i really wanted to make up for it at university....do alot of people go to the stumble in or do they just drink in their halls?..i also saw the little pub/village on the way into to myerscough (i think its called old nells or something like that), do people visit there alot?
I see what you mean about living in preston being close to town and shops etc, i think it will be fun in second year... do the buses you have mentioned run quite often to myerscough?
I received a letter today from the college stating that i have to pay my accommodation in 2 50% installments...this is going to leave me with hardly any student loan to socialise/travel with in the first two terms...is it pretty hard to get a job when living on campus?
Sorry for all the questions lol...God, they haven't really left you alot of time to sort things out!! its a bit out of order in my opinion!! anyway hope everything works out well for you!!

Ahh glad you managed to sort something out  What accomodation are you in?

To be honest i think on campus is best for the 1st year, it's great for meeting new people and gives you a chance to get used to everything.Getting free food if your on catering isn't completely bad either  they do some decent stuff at times and being able to grab a free cup of tea and a breakfast barm or whatever to go is perfect for lectures
Teaching wise the teachers are pretty good. Guessing different course tutors vary but overall not bad, they know what their teaching and i'd say there are worse. Occasionally i found there's a bit of delay in getting assignments back but the feedback is good and their encouraging and let you constantly email or hand in things as your working on them to see if your on track.

Night life wise i was the same starting out  .a lot of people do go to the stumble but when i went it didnt seem to be as amazing but they do do some good nights and have a decent 1st week line up for freshers so its worth a check. and yes, in halls drinking is done too
haha oooh totally somehow forgot about Guys!! (known as Guys or Nells but thier the same really lol) their really good-do some of the most amazing food and if you dont mind the walk its pretty decent going for a few drinks, same with the Roebuck pub across the road.
and yeah, the vilalge is o.k, it has a nice chippy and a shop thats good for buying bits (cheaper than on site shop anyway!)

the buses that run directly into myerscough and back go twice a day-they leave the bus station and train station and get in for 9ish.buses back vary-the bus station one is latest to leave myerscough at 5.15-5.30ish and the train station one leaves at 5ish. apart from that the buses are the stagecoach 40/41 and leave from the roebuck pub (and again from the bus station) and theyre twice an hour so its not too bad

Hmm think paying for my accommodation was a bit different, cant remember if it said that in my letter but when I went on the day to move in and sort the papers etc i swear I was able to set up direct debits for paying in different instalments. Just say that and explain to them, they are normally dead nice about it and understand that you'd prefer to pay in different instalments

Getting a job...hmm well i think it varies. i personally didnt manage to get a job but some of the friends i met did. it depends if your fussy over hours and what your skills are etc. Guys and Roebuck advertised a few things but mainly bar work.

I dont mind the questions. i remember what it was like when i started and i was the same so i know it's nice to have someone elses experiences!
