Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadNot atall(Original post by Nisha67)
Glen Eyre is quite a bit more expensive than Wessex Lane though and from everything else I've read here Wessex Lane seems to be more sociable and more of the 'party place'. I'm actually so confused aha.
I've visited all the accomodation sites, and Glen Eyre is closer to the uni, and according to about 6 friends who go there- it's more modern and just as sociable
Yeahh downside is that is is more expensive :/ -
Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's Thread
If you're looking at Glen, I'd recommend an 'enhanced room' (self-catered) above the other options - you still get the sociable side, you don't have to share a bathroom with many people and at £90 p/w (in Richard Newitt H when I was a Fresher) it's not too bad.
How does the price stack up now?
As for Wessex, it's naturally going to be very sociable as it's the largest Halls complex in Europe! -
Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's Thread:O What do they want your B in?!(Original post by Nisha67)
Firmed Southampton for Maths with French. Need AAB, still confused about which accomodation to pick though. :/
I've firmed Maths with German and they want AAA (which is practically impossible with a language!) -
Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadThey want a B in Further Maths and the two As in Maths and French. I know it's gonna be a tough one :/ What's your insurance?(Original post by AbsolutePotOfKurry)

Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadOhh, it's further maths! That makes sense then. Birmingham.. but they do 50/50 so i'm not so sure :/ it's just that Southampton's really good in the tables and anywhere else for this degree doesn't compare league wise :/ why do they want such unattainable grades >_< what were you predicted?(Original post by Nisha67)

Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's Thread
Honestly guys, it really doesn't matter what halls you're in-you'll have fun in all of them. If you miss out on your first choice, don't be disheartened. It's the people make the halls, not necessarily what they're built like or when they were made. If anyone has any questions, feel free to pm

Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadSame my insurance is Birmingham as well! And I know, although I think I may enjoy going to Birmingham more than I would Southampton, it really doesn't compare in the league tables :/ And I was predicted A*AA... (Ha! Like hell that's happening!)(Original post by AbsolutePotOfKurry)

Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's Thread
Hey,
Just wondering where have people applied for accomodation??
Just thought i'd let you know that i'm an aeronautical engineering and will more or less 99.9999999999% be coming to southampton as i only need AAA, and i'm on track to get A*A*A*aa
However reapplying to cambridge does always cross my mind :/ lol
Anywayz i have applied to Glen Eyre and Highfield Halls...... what about you amazing people? -
Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadI think it does to a lot of people until you actually get there. Honestly I think aero is one of Soton's strongest courses, it's a very, very high quality course. There's some great alumni who went there (eg Adrian Newey) and that sector of the uni gets so much support. Fantastic department.(Original post by SJS101)

Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadHi, Thanks for the reassurance(Original post by fnm)

The only annoying this is that it could be seen as Adrian Newey being a one off? Like there has not been any TOP Formula One engineers who have came Soton other than him.
Also i just wish i applied to Imperial as well, but oh well.
My career aspiration is to get into Formula One, so Southampton is a good choice in that respect, and i hope that they live up to their repuatation. After all I did decline offers from other top Uni's such as Bristol to go to Soton this upcoming year
Btw, Are you a current student? If so how much of the course is linked to Race care aerodynamics? -
Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's Thread
Anyone know what the Physics department is like, I haven't had a chance to visit, however firmed it based on reputation, I'm not particularly confident I can reach the offer because of my 3rd subject (darn you Biology!), any idea on leniency toward the 3rd subject (A in Maths and Physics shouldn't be a problem)

Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadSouthampton is like the place to be for engineering in general though.(Original post by SJS101)

If you really wanted to try for imperial why not email them? I know sites like TSR would say there's no point but I think you could.
No I'm not but I know aero students who like you declined offers from lots of other unis to go there. -

Thanks for the reply
And i am prob gonna stick with Soton
, unless i get straight A*'s then i might reapply. I don't personally think ringing imperial will work tbh.

Re: Southampton 2012 Applicant's ThreadHonestly, Soton is like top for engineering in so many tables. In the recent Guardian is was 1 on 2 of the engineering tables...(Original post by SJS101)

I'd definitely try calling/emailing if you get A*s and you're sure you want to go to Imperial (a uni of 64% males
)- in fact I'd email as soon as you've finished your exams. Seriously, you'll either get a reply or you won't, it's worth trying. I know the rules seemingly make this impossible but in reality, it's not.

P.S. I'm not gay
