Re: Peninsula Medical School Applicants thread 2012 entry.A Peninsula one? I wouldn't really want a degree from an institution that didn't exist anymore!!(Original post by carcinoma)
Assuming it goes ahead, Which is looking a little up in the air at the moment with all the anger and rejection from students, staff and the doctors.
All 2012 students, along will all current students will remain to be taught identically until 2018 when the last cohort are expected to graduate (including those that resit a year or intercalate), with a joint Exeter and Plymouth University Degree.
The 2013 entry will be for the "new" courses, which essentially is also identical with just a different name. They will be identical from pre-clinical teaching all the way through clinical rotations, which does make us wonder what the point is. -

and I don't see what difference it makes, the whole reason PCMD is even able to split into two is because it has been more successful than any of the other new schools of medicine.
we'll be like those limited edition pink smarties.
man they where good. -
Re: Peninsula Medical School Applicants thread 2012 entry.Which is what makes it all the more insane. Why would anyone take something that isn't broken and smash it in half, in an attempt to fix it?(Original post by OSharp)

Yes, the degrees Peninsula graduates have and will continue to be awarded is a joint degree from both the University of Exeter and Plymouth.
i.e BMBS from University of Exeter and Plymouth.
While being limited edition may seem like a good consolation prize in reality its not that much of a positive thing.
Yes while it will be irrelevant for FY1 applications, but our medical school will appear on future applications, (ST and on) and in reality we do not know what impact having graduated from a medical school which no longer exists will have on the people reading our applications.Last edited by carcinoma; 17-03-2012 at 18:05. -

Hmm thats a valid point. I didn't think about that, what happens if you intercalate do you get a BSc from the Exeter or Plymouth?
You can choose to intercalate at the University of Plymouth, University of Exeter or anywhere externally. -

Re: Peninsula Medical School Applicants thread 2012 entry. This is what I've done as well(Original post by AndrewWong92)
No you don't, I've already sorted my student finance out as you can put peninsula down as the institution.
They've just sent me a declaration in the post, haven't signed it yet though
When you say sorted do you mean everything's confirmed?
I've still got to wait for my offer to become unconditional so I can open a student account and give student finance the bank details, which won't be until around may

Re: Peninsula Medical School Applicants thread 2012 entry.
Hello! I was just reading through the course information when I saw this:
and I realised I literally have no idea what an occupational health assessment or examination actually consists of and now I'm feeling the fear of the unknown lol. Can anyone enlighten me?We can only accept students who are physically and mentally capable of meeting the demands placed upon them by a medical degree and by the professional duties of a qualified medical practitioner. We'll seek, where possible, to make any reasonable adjustments to help if you have specific health requirements and challenges. The final determination of admission will be based on an occupational health assessment and there may be cases where the College feels it's unable to offer a place to a student because of significant health issues that will affect their fitness to practise medicine.
All students must complete a pre-course health screening form which you need to have signed by your general practitioner (GP) and may also include a meeting or medical examination with the College's occupational health doctors. Students who don't tell us at the admission stage about a mental or physical health problem that may affect their ability to practise, and which is later revealed, may face a serious fitness to practise issue with the College. Students may also be referred to the appropriate Fitness to Practise Committee and may have to withdraw from the programme of study.
