    desperate cwk help needed! A.S.A.P!!!
    Hello all...
I am in a frenzy because I have less than two days to write my R.E coursework and I have literally nothing. I made notes weeks ago but Ive lost them and forgotten them. Now Imnot even sure if I understand the question:

'A relativist approach to morality if far more reliable than simply doing your duty.' Discuss.

I know i need to consider what reliable means but other than that my mind is blank.....!!!!!!

well a relativist is one who is convinced that religious disagreements are neither productive nor important. Relativists tend to emphasize areas of harmony among religions, minimizing or ignoring their differences, so u basically have to discuss the relativist side of the argument n the duty?

Doing your duty often means contradicting your own morals or established moral codes. Thats assuming "duty" is a capacity that involves life\death decisions. Is there a context to this work?

a relativist will look at both sides of the arguement and make a judgement on the best action to take based on
    the situation
    possible consequences
effects on themselves and other people
and could come up with different view points each time

where as some one who was doing there duty would stick to the same opinion - e.g that stealing is WRONG in ALL situations.

So are subjective ethical theories relative ones? E.g. is utilitarianism as what is wrong or right is relative to the amount of happiness the greatest number will receive?

Would it be okay then if I applied say utilitarianism and Kantian ethics to a certain situation e.g. abortion and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of being relative and following your duty?
