My impression is that you wouldn't need to matriculate again, since they say that those who have matriculated at Cambridge or Dublin before won't need to matriculate again. I imagine it's the same for postgrads who did their undergrad at Oxford, although you'd be the sort of person I'd ask, since you went there. :-p

Congrats on all your offers. :-)

I may have missed something or be misreading this but are you suggesting that if you have matriculated at Cambridge or Dubin, you don't matriculate at Oxford? I didn't know that.

Even better than that- if you have a Cambridge or Dublin degree and are a current Oxford student, you can hand it in and get it duplicated for an equivalent Oxford degree. A good few of my friends have taken up the opportunity to strike the University of Some-other-Place off of their CV.

But no, you'll miss matriculation (although still be in the College photo) if you've previously matriculared at TCD or Cam.

This is slightly shocking... Ah well. I think I've heard a similar story involving honorary degrees, perhaps the 'new' degree would at least bear the mention 'honorary'...?

Likewise. Do you mean they sent you an official/formal document by email? That's convenient, I wish my department was that practical, although I'm expecting a message informing me of the conditions (if any) of my offer today...

Yeah, they sent me an official/formal document by email, with all the deets. Just waiting for it to come by post now.

That's interesting. Hopefully I'll still get a place at any matriculation dinner too. I missed ours due to a wedding.

I'm pleased that this thread has been created as well.

I received a conditional offer for the MPhil in European Politics & Society program (that makes 3 of us on here?). I'm currently an undergraduate at a top university in the United States and will be completing my BA in Government (Hons) this May.

Last year I had the opportunity to study at Hertford College, Oxford as a visiting student in PPE for the Trinity Term. It was an incredible experience and one that made me determined to apply for graduate study.

My current college choices are (1) Merton and (2) Lincoln. As a visiting student, I was a member of the Hertford MCR and remember fondly being invited to Merton for dinner. I very much enjoyed Merton and decided it would be my top preference for college membership. I am hoping it works out for me!

All this matriculation business sounds so foreign to me, and by virtue of its exoticness also very exciting. It was already quite special that my university had a cap-and-gown ceremony; such academic folklore does not stroke well with the Weberian work ethic that the Netherlands is renowned for. Those manifestations are what make Oxford so illustrious though, so I can't wait to be immersed in them.

@ of7271, I'm wondering how intensively you have studied the EU in your BA in Government. I personally followed a very broad curriculum for my Bachelor's (Liberal Arts & Sciences) and my current Master's degree isn't particularly specialized either (Global Studies). While I am doing an internship at the European Parliament at the moment, and am thus learning quite a bit (although, working at the Dutch information office most of what I deal with is decidedly - and logically - Dutch in focus), I do fear that everyone will be one or two steps ahead of me at the start of the degree. For example, I have heard of the Fouchet Plan and the Luxembourg Compromise, but would not be able to discourse about either at great length. The core paper does seem designed to create a level-playing field, and the fact that I have been accepted should illustrate that the department is not seeking out specialist knowledge, but I am slightly dreading being out of my depth.

Merton is a lovely college! I really wanted to put it on my application, but in the end I chose two colleges of similar age (Oriel and Exeter) that do not seem to attract as many applications. Since my chances of getting into my favourite colleges like Merton and Magdalen are likely quite low, I figured the next best thing would be a lesser-known medieval college, even if it wasn't my tippy-top choice, and that way I'd be less likely to land in one of the more modern (i.e. 1960s) colleges that I don't like nearly as much. I was a student at St Peter's for two terms, and even a newer college like that would be lovely. I'm just super excited to be a matriculated student at Oxford!

I'm not in your field, but I feel the same way. In all honesty, probably 90% of the people who have been accepted are at least a little nervous about their preparedness. The faculties are aware that we will each have had different educational backgrounds. And most importantly, as you yourself said, Oxford would not have accepted our applications if they suspected we were not prepared enough. That is a very true statement, so try to take comfort in it and don't spend your entire summer buried in books and articles pertaining to your subject. Some preparation could help, but don't get burnt out before you've even started!
Didn't see this thread before, I see familiar faces from the Oxford applicants thread :p:

I hold an offer for the M.Phil in Comparative Government
I applied to New College and Brasenose and waiting to hear from them!

To other politics offer holders: did you receive a letter through the regular mail as well or only the email from the department?

So far I've only received the email, and not a paper letter. But I'm on the other side of the globe basically, so I'm not so surprised. Probably wouldn't be until next week for me, assuming they sent it on 19 March.

Same offer for Mphil in Comparative Government! (1) St Anthony's (2) Nuffield.

Am still awaiting hardcopy mail which is most probably sent from by the college because they need the financial guarantee thing.

I'm all the way in London...so the postal services are really slow if they sent it on the 19th :p:

What is your offer like?

It says I need a 67%, however I have no idea how they are going to calculate that

What's 67%? Never heard of that. My offer is conditional upon maintaining my GPA above 3.7. That's it.

I'm guessing that we're all awaiting letters from our respective colleges. They are the ones that set out the financial requirements.

I think it takes about a week for a letter to get from UK to Singapore. Cross fingers!

Congrats on the offers, everyone!

I'm also studying for the MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention though I've been offered a spot on the MPhil if I want it. Haven't heard back from colleges but I listed Teddy Hall and Jesus.

For those of you who are international students, when are you making the move to the UK? I think I'm headed over at the end of May.

Wow! That's early. I think I'll come and drop my stuff in college around August if possible, and stay in France till October. I really hope we hear about colleges soon, as I imagine that securing a room early will be quite a battle...

Btw, Oxford is deserted and pretty boring before October...

The end of May already? Quite an early bird! Where would you be staying? Relatedly, approximately at what date would we be able to take up college accommodation?

I will definitely not make the move before August, as I will be taking some more courses in Vienna and will be working on my thesis. If I secure funding, August and September should be months off and I have no clue yet where I'd be spending those. Perhaps I'd start for Oxford early September, but it does depend on college housing.

I should mention that my husband is British and we'll be staying with his family for a few months while he searches for a job. We figure the sooner we get to the UK, the sooner he can find a job and we can get situated. We don't plan to move into our own place in Oxford until the end of September. I applied for university accommodation as well as college accommodation so hopefully we have a few places to choose from. I'm not sure when we're able to take up college accommodation, I think it depends on availability.

Didn't mean to scare all of you .
