I agree with djdj, I personally find they're not a good mix. Alcohol kind of numbs your senses and you cant appreciate the music as much - you dont hear it how its meant to be heard.. Havent explained it very well so sorry if it doesnt make sense! There are other things you can mix with raving that work much better and make it an experience like nothing else. Aaaah so beautifulll!!!
Oh, I know what you mean, and I completely agree. It just seemed like a slightly out of place/random comment, I just wondered what had inspired it

that would be a biiiiigggg nono.
. I feel that you do need a certain bit of alcohol to get you into the swing of things...completely sober ppl dont get there dance moves as smooth. I think alcohol with dancing mixes perfectly fine as long as you take it in moderation

Re: Dance and Trance Music Society
Just wondering if anyone knows what this dance song is? Ive posted on the "Whats This Song Thread" but had no response, I thought maybe someone on here might know.
I dont know the lyrics but I have seen the video, its of this boy at a swimming pool, the other kids are laughing at him, then he swims under the drain at the bottom of the pool through some pipes and ends up having dinner with some girl in a bikini in an underwater restaurant, any ideas? It sounds a little like 'Make Love' (Olver Cheetham??) in the background! Any suggestions welcome, thanks! -

of course not! Hehe..
Hmm ok maybe a TINY bit of alcohol is acceptable.. no more than a couple of drinks though! But I dont know... since I started erm.. not drinking wen going out, my dancing has improved by miles and miles. So now even when I'm completely sober I can dance like I'm... not. It just lets you become so creative with how you move and removes inhibitions - you do it for the love of doing it and not because you think 'I dont care how I look any more'. So a bit of a subtle difference I suppose. Anyway this is a dangerous topic, I'm stopping! -
Re: Dance and Trance Music Society
Mmm, just found this soc
And damn me, but dance&trance probably accounts for about 90-95% of my music collection. I can't get enough of the stuff, people mention drugs and alcohol in relation to the whole scene, Trance is my drug
It keeps me going for hours and hours on end when nothing else can keep me concentrated on things. I don't like to spoil it by drinking or taking anything (although I might have a drink or two to cut my normal awkwardness if I'm out).
Mostly I prefer the mid-late 90's scene, but I've spotted a few new names recently (over the last year or two) that sound good and I'm looking for more now ... I tend to listen to music from Mauro Picotto, ATB, Faithless, Tiesto, Robert Miles, Darude and other similar artists ... anyone got any suggestions of things to listen to/people to look for?
Oh, and if anyone's not heard of it http://www.di.fm/ is a great site for internet radio with a dozen or more different channels going these days, a semi-regular hangout of my media players when I'm on my laptop or PC. -
Re: Dance and Trance Music Society
Try psytrance. I cant do normal trance since I started listening to it! Well I can listen to it, but if I try and go out and dance to it, normal trance bores me to death.
Psytrance is amazing. Very dark, hard, twisted but yet at the same time it has a beauty to it with all the melodies that float and twist in and out of each other. And it doesnt have the tacky quality that trance can have. (well if you avoid certain psytrance artists anyway!)
Try 1200micrograms, eskimo, protoculture, hallucinogen to start you off if you like.

Tbh, most dance fans I speak to that don't like trance say that it's just too soft and/or bland for them. Trance as a genre these days is very subtle and there are less big riffs and more progressive and chillout elements. I like to listen to trance while working. It's not too distracting but creates a nice mood.
As for psy-trance. Yeah, I like it. Those basslines they use can be as groovy as *****. Do love my Infected Mushroom, I must say. -
Re: Dance and Trance Music Society
Yep; trance - like hardcore - has gone down the plug, IMO. That'd be why I still listen to the older tunes.
Matt, you've named some of the biggest mainstream DJ's around - if you're looking for track quality over set quality look to the likes of Ralph Fridge, Flutlicht, Chicane. If you want some good sets look to Van Buuren, Helsloot (forget if that's the correct spelling or not), BT. -
Re: Dance and Trance Music SocietyI dont know, any time that I go out to trance clubs it just sounds so cheesey and tacky, especially all that euphoric stuff they play! I'm too used to my dark psytrance I guess lol.(Original post by Phil_D)

I've never understood the big deal about infected mushroom
they have a few good tracks but so much of their stuff that I hear is so europoppy I'm like what is this?! But thats just me
djdj - psytrance is boring?? Noooo!!!! Lol no fair enough you're entitled to your opinion. But I dont think psytrance is comparable to trance much at all. I cant handle trance (the tacky euphoric factor along with the usual its kinda bland reasons
) but psytrance there is so much going on; you can dance to the same track like you're speeded up to the eyeballs or like you're floating on a cloud of mandy. What with all the layers and stuff. Oh I sound so silly trying to explain why I love it so much lol.

Re: Dance and Trance Music SocietyI wouldn't say it's gone down the plug. It has changed an awful lot and you either like the changes or you don't. I personally think that the stuff that's been coming out on Anjunabeats over the last 2 or 3 years is incredible. And recent tracks like Arksun - Arisen and Orjan - Artic Globe are really doing it for me. Artic Globe is unbelieveable i reckon. But i would definately agree that the way in which trance has changed makes it not as good as a type of music to go out clubbing too. When you are working away in your room or chilling out a modern episode of A State Of Trance is perfect. (And believe me, it doesn't sound cheesey in the slightest.) Yet the same trance goes down less well in the main room of a packed club than the classic stuff that was being released between 1998-2001. But as Mark says, you can always just listen to the old tunes.(Original post by djmarkmclachlan)

No, it's quality ****. Disco Mushroom, I'M The Supervisor, Cities Of The Future, Frog Machine, Ratio Shmatio, Sailing On The Sea Of The Mushroom, B.P. Empire. So many good tracks. And so creative musically. And they were amazing live when i saw them.(Original post by mangomaz)

Re: Dance and Trance Music SocietyYou've got quite a variety of acts there. Acts that I wouldn't necessarily put together under the same group.(Original post by miki_da_magpie)
