Lucy Cavendish College (Cambridge) Students and Applicants

I've just been pooled to Lucy Cavendish and I was just wondering if anyone knew much about what it's like? And how old generally are the students from there? I know they are all women over 21 but are there many in their 20's?

I think that quite a lot are in their twenties - lots will be grads who have recently finished a bachelors degree

Calling all Lucy '07-en-ners.

Are you out there? I doubt it. I think I'm in mature lady student fiefdom and the reigning loner.

All hail the Reigning Loner! Hopefully you'll have a few subjects to terrorise/extend your benevolent mercy to soon!

(Not sure if there are all that many mature students around, so you might not have a huge amount of luck...)
I qualify for entry into the mature lady student fiefdom, but not via Lucy Cavendish - I'm already in Selwyn
 Hehe... Good things come to those that wait... And a pint o' Guinness wouldn't go amiss either.

Out of interest - what's it like being that little bit older amongst the younger set? Originally, when I first went to college to start my A levels, I felt like an old granny (at the tender age of 20 too, shocking), but as the months passed I'd say age became an indistinguishable factor. Some people even thought I was 17/18!
I was quite worried about it when I first arrived, but to my very great surprise, no-one seems to have noticed!! I'm mutter mutter mumble lots older than the undergrads around me. I'm pretty tolerant of how other people choose to leave their lives eg bops, drunken parties etc, but I'm a bit of an old fossil myself socially. But then my MCR has a wide range of activities to choose from, some at the bop end of things, others more fossily and all extremely welcoming.

In truth, it seems to me that most people here have such a variety of different backgrounds, life stories etc that no-one cares about things as meaningless as age. Individuality seems to be very well accepted and age doesn't seem to be an issue at all.

I just got offered a place at Lucy and I too was wondering what it might be like to stay at a single-sex college that accepts mostly mature students. Mainly because I am NOT a mature student and didnt really want to go to a single-sex college.... so please keep saying nice things about it.....

Just needed some information for undergrad law at Lucy Cavendish...
Well, why don't you go onto the Lucy Cavendish website and find it?

Written to the admissions office... no reply yet.
What exactly do you need to know that can't be found on the website and in prospectuses?

- An approximate number of overseas applicants and acceptances per year.
- An approximate number of affiliated applicants and acceptances per year.
- Cambridge does not interview candidates in North America - is there any work around for that? Can I volunteer to come over for an interview if they want to?
- Though my native language is not English, I have been educated in North America during my graduate studies - do I have to take any English language requirement exam?
- My undergrad scores are in the range of 98 percentile at my univ (BE from India) and my grad GPA is 3.3/4.0 (MS in US - GPA is on an average lower for most science students). Are these scores comparable to the previously accepted Lucy students?

It would be great if anyone from Lucy can answer these questions.

Thanks!

I reaaalllyyyy want to come to Lucy Cav and study a PGCE in secondary science.

Although I'm a little worried about getting on the course...

I'm planning on applying for the PGCE course at Cambridge for entry in 2010. Currently I'm on track for a 1st class or upper second class honours BSc in Biomedical sciences.

However, My A level grades were a pile of poo. I had 3 Cs in Biology, Chemistry and English Lit at A2 and a C in Fine Art As.

My GCSEs are ok, 2 A*s 10As and 2Bs and a D (in art which I took for 6 months once a week after school, lol).

On the graduate admissions website for Cambridge, it says that an upper second class honours degree is required (obviously with my degree I wan't to teach secondary science with specialisation in Biology). Do you think it's even worth applying with those bad A levels, or am I wasting my time?

Be brutally honest.

hi all,

I'm on Lucy's late applications round, just wondering if there are any more people in the same boat as me?

and if so... are you finding the wait for news of an interview as scary as I am? lol.

btw, for anyon who has been through the admissions process before, is it normal to have not heard from them a week after the application deadline? (deadline was 20th march, interviews 15-16th april).

thanks
