Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information ThreadNo problem at all. If you firm Reading you are guaranteed a place in halls. Your chances of getting a place in Wantage are pretty good if you apply on the day applications for accommodation open. It is a first come first served system, so make sure you're on the ball :] I think accommodation opens in April/May, I'm not entirely sure as Reading was my insurance so I couldn't apply with the firmers. There will be a link on the portal, which you will probably be emailed a link too :](Original post by kog)
Thank you both for the useful info!
I've firmed Reading now (as of 1 hour ago), when and how do I apply for my accomodation, and what are the chances of me getting into Wantage? (as that's where I really want to go now :P) -
Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information Thread
Hi

I've firmed reading, and as the accommodation prices have been released, I'm stuck for which accommodation to choose.
Really want to go to wessex, it seems like a fun and social halls to be living in and also the cheapest! But I've read on student room that's it's really popular, and therefore a bit worried if I miss it out on a place, I'll be stuck in a boring/very expensive hall! So I was wondering what st George's was like? That's the second cheapest, so will probably be my second choice.
Thanks

Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information ThreadHey there. Yes Wessex is a really popular hall, but there's no harm in trying for it. St George's is nice. Some rooms are ensuite and some share bathrooms. From what I have heard, St George's has a higher percentage of international students and can be quiet at times, although I'm sure some will disagree with me. I think it's safe to say it's impossible to get stuck in a boring hall, expensive yes, but boring? No chance. There's always something going on.(Original post by hb31)

Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information ThreadI do English so can probably answer some of your questions. I've found the teaching to be very good and the classes engaging. Of course you will have to read some things you don't like but this is true of all English courses.(Original post by Zu!)
hey! i've firmed reading for english and french but would love any extra information on the english/french course.
do people generally find these subjects enjoyable at reading? any advice would be really appreciated! thanks

how are you finding your experience thus far? did you get much reading in the first year? it's so lovely to find someone who actually does the course!

Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information ThreadIt's pretty good. There is quite a lot of reading in the first year - most of which comes from a couple of anthologies they have you buy but it certainly isn't an overwhelming amount.(Original post by Zu!)
cool!

Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information ThreadMay as well, but they didn't contact me for ages when I got my offer so don't worry too much(Original post by Zu!)
I firmed about a month ago and they haven't got back to me! Should I email?
Just pop the head of department or admissions a quick email to put your mind at ease

Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information Thread
Hi there, I am stuck between Wessex Hall and Stenton Towhouses at the moment for accommodation. I hear Wessex is great for social life and its a lot cheaper but the rooms don't like that great. And I hear the Townhouses are mainly for 2nd or 3rd years but they look really nice and I hear they are new for 2012
If you were in my position what halls would you pick??
Thank you, this thread is helping a lot!

Re: University of Reading: Ask a Student / Information ThreadI LOVE Reading! I really enjoy my course, and I love the social life too.
HAve only been in Wantage. It's nice, but it tends to be agrics/ "rahs" who live there. NOt a problem if you're happy about living with them, but if not then this is probably not the place for you!(Original post by Tom_Andrews)
Anyone else apply for accommodation today?
Can someone also tell me what dunsden crescent and St Patricks/ Wantage halls are like? As in the social life, the type of people, etc for each. Thanks!
I'm currently in Wessex and was in my first year, and I love living here so much. The rooms aren't exactly the quality that you'd have at home and the curtain were clearly designed by someone on an acid trip, but once you get used to the change it's fine. I also know a lot of people who have done their rooms up really nicely. I could send you a picture of mine (when it's tidier if you want?). Also the social life is excellent, and the head of the JCR for next year is a ledge.(Original post by mrdecimate)
