Re-took the multiple choice this year to boost my chances of getting an A*. My teacher estimated around 48/50 for my controlled assessment, but a student had an epileptic fit in the Unit 3 exam, which kinda threw me and I messed up at the end

    how did everyone do?
    I got an A.
179/200 which is more than slightly annoying as I was one off an A*.

I don't know what to do now though, because my unit breakdown is as follows:
    Unit 1- 45/50(a*)
    Unit 2- 43/50(a)
    Unit 3- 91/100(a*)
Total of 179/200 which is an A.

I was wondering if we're allowed to resit the controlled assessment? Or is it just exams that we can retake?
I'd rather not resit an exam I got an A* in just to get a higher one if I don't have to :/
If you could help at all I'd be grateful.

    What did you get btw?

    189/200

    unit 1 43/50
    unit 2 50/50
    unit 3 96/100

    A*
    i got:
    unit 1 44/50
    unit 2 46/50
    unit 3 76/100

which is an A, i was slightly dissapointed as i felt i done really well in that exam, i am thinking of getting a photocopy or pdf of my exam back, after the exam i was certain that i had an A* for business as i had been getting a*s in nearly all my mock and practice exams, so I am genuinely suprised

    Hi,

great results. I would suggest getting a copy of the paper if you felt that the exam had gone very well, but I would also add that GCSE edexcel business studies required answers of an extremely specific nature. For example, if there was a 3 mark question which asked "how could Tesco reduce costs?", You had to give a general idea i.e "they can reduce costs by cutting stock" - 1mark, then you had to add a link, i.e "this would lead to them reducing waste and therefore increase profits" - 2 marks, and then finally you had to add a CONTEXT to the 3 mark question i.e "in the context of tesco, they could analyse sales figures of their lettuces and cut back on their stocking of them" - 3 marks. A whole load of my friends left the exam thinking they had got an A*, but the mark scheme is so specific that you really have to nail it on the head since examiners have little time to search through your answers.

Good luck and I hope your grade goes up.

Thanks for replying back and well done on your A* , i'm hoping the grade does go up but who knows  In terms of the the answers required i followed that exact formula always referring to the firm in the question and for the longer questions i made sure I came to some sort of evaluation at the end but in exams it may not go as you hoped or would like If you don't mind me asking but what a-levels have you picked for year 12 and what do you hope to study at uni?

With the grades you have you will be the perfect candidate for either one you choose at top universities

For me its Maths, Physics, Economics and Business (All Edexcel), 1 A-level as my school decided to take full economics away as a choice because no one in the previous year chose it as an option and Chemistry (AQA), Good Luck with the start of your as levels and the rest of your a-levels

I'll add you as a friend too, i got 3A*s 4As and 3Bs which compared to yours is rubbish but the annoying thing about my results is that i was few ums off an a* in 3 subjects and a few ums off an A in the subjects i got Bs in but I am happy with my results as they exceeded my schools prediction of 1A* 4As 4Bs and 1C, they were one of the best at my school  . i hope you do well next year and apply to the best unis for economics or maths

Yeah it is pretty annoying, but not much I can do about it :/

I'm going to get a unit 3 remark, but if that doesn't work then I think I'm going to resit unit 3 again next June to try and get a mark higher than I did this year.
If the worst comes to the worst I can't really complain with an A
