Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012Hahaha, you younglings have no stamina!
... Just kidding, I was also really tired last night. Went into theatre this afternoon to watch a baclofen pump being put in, which equated to around four hours of awesome.
Edit: also, how were you able to be on here six hours ago?!

Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012
Hey, I was just wondering; when do I have to do all the health checks/criminal checks that appear on my offer?
I was told by my school to really follow this up because I could lose my place by not doing something or other about it (They weren't very clear).
Existing students: So what are the pros and cons of studying Medicine at Sheffield (from a student's point of view)??? -
Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012get on with the hep b vaccination as quickly as possible. On the kind of peach coloured sheet about helath screening that comes with their interview pack it says the immunisation process could take up to 9 months, but I'm not entirely sure why that is, I reckon it'd still be fine now. Ring up your GP as soon as you can and ask if they'll book you in for one, you might have to pay for it though.(Original post by PrismaticCore)

not sure about the CRB check, but I think the uni might have to start that one off. see if there's anything about it on the sheffield uni website.

Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012
With regards to the Hep B.
I went to my GP in November about the vaccination, and I was told I'd have to pay over £100 for the jab, and they recommended I contacted the university themselves. I emailed Sheffield and the response I got was "Our Occupational Health Department will carry them out if you are made an offer here."
So I've just left it, and I'm waiting til I get an offer (if I do get an offer that is). But obviously 9 months from now is after the start of the course, and my interview was only last week, so I'm not expecting to hear anything for another week or two. -
Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012Hahha. Oh man... Today was AMAZING. Quite a long day (if you haven't seen my FB post) but I got to see quite a few surgeries and met a few really nice surgeons.(Original post by *pitseleh*)
Hahaha, rather you than me... I had a hangover this morning and don't fancy mixing that with work again tomorrow.
Are you doing medicine / nursing atm? Or are you in Chesterfield?
-
Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012D'aww, glad it was a good day.(Original post by Vulpes)

Nursing at the moment - which I guess means you're on your medical placement? Not in Chesterfield (though now wishing I was!) - am in the NGH this week and Hallamshire next week. How's about you? -
Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012Yep. And you do have to make the most out of your placement(Original post by *pitseleh*)

We were sent to wards yesterday because our consultant only had paperwork to do so we decided to just crash in the ICU. The doctors there were really friendly and taught us TONS of exciting stuff
Corp tonight?

Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012Indeeds - we've hardly sat down all placement so far.(Original post by Vulpes)

Haha, definitely no outings for me this eve - am going to have a shower and go to bed!
Hope you have a most excellent night if you head out!
-
Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012Don't pester them; they'll only be keeping quiet because they're inundated with things to do. I know it's a pain in the arse to wait, but enquiries at this stage just slow things down even further.(Original post by jessplease)
3 weeks was up today to hear back from sheffield, was just wondering how long people would wait till they rung up the uni? i dont want to pester them, but i'm dying to know!

Re: Sheffield Medicine Applicants 2012
Glad to hear you guys are enjoying your placements. I remember when I finished ICE I was exhausted (can't believe it was 2 years ago...ugh). Start getting used to it though. No sympathy when you get to clinical years.(Original post by *pitseleh*)

Wasn't allowed to touch the bowels today because I apparently wasn't Hep B certified. But they checked for my antibodies at the beginning of the year and I was fine...
