Not sure, it's only a Bsc and I would like to do a masters.

ok i'm really confused now. on the website it says that most of the maths courses do the same modules in the first two years and then you can choose all options in the third year. Doesn't this mean that you can do any maths course and it will be the same thing?

I think when it says most it means if you pick a special course like the theoretical physics one they will replace one or two of the modules you do in the first and second year with more relevant modules, but still keep most of the modules. it isn't very clear though, so i could easily be wrong.

Yes, it will be the same thing until you specialise in the 3rd year. It's the same for some other courses. In my department all the earth science students study the same thing for the first 2 years as well and we don't specialise iinto our chosen disciplines until 3rd and 4th year.

ohh ok then thanks  I think i might just apply for straight maths then :P

Sorry I took so long to add you - I was at an open day for Edinburgh Uni and didn't have internet!

Anyway, I've added both of you now

Well, I've already finished my A-levels. I've got A*A*AAB, and I am predicted to get, after more exams next year, 4A*3A at A-level (I'm still deliberating whether to take an eighth subject ). Might seem like quite a lot, but they would be taken over three years!

I think there's one or two other post-A-level applicants on this thread. As for the others, I'm sure their grades can be found somewhere or another

Yourself?

Why did you decide to take another 2 A-levels (as if 5 wasn't a lot already)? I almost asked which A-levels you've taken, or are taking, but it would probably be more appropriate to ask which aren't you taking? Anyway, surely you can't get rejected with 4A*s and 3As, right?

Well I sat maths a year early so I could take further maths next year, along with physics and chemistry AS. So, at the moment, I have A*aa, but hope to have A*A*A*A next year. :h: I'm a bit gutted about my chemistry though; had I had the same scores in the January my UMS would have been considerably higher. The June 2011 grade boundaries are the highest to date for chemistry AS. :frown:

Well, it was my first open day (I visited cambridge last year, but not on an open day) so I don't really have something for comparison.

The people were definitely friendly and helpful (the applicants, the lecturers and the people who helped out at the open day, which I think consisted of both staff and current students). Both the admissions talk and the maths talk were rather boring, though I guess this was perhaps mostly because I knew all of it! I did notice that he stressed being able to get a job afterwards (in particular the financial sector) much more than the actual degree course itself - though I don't know if this is normal?

Anything else in particular you want to know?

Welcome to the thread

Where else are you applying?
Hey, I'm just wondering what you guys think the chances of me not getting automatically rejected are..
I got the results I thought I would, but in the opposite subjects. AABB (maths, geog, bio and chem respectively)
I want to do either chemistry or geography, but chemistry is my first choice, and I really want to go to Imperial, which is an AAA entry requirement.
However, my predicted grades so far, (not biology) is only AAB (maths, geog and chemistry respectively). But, I'm a chemistry peer mentor, a chemistry student rep, plus my extended project (not the qualification, just for fun :L) is about the development and reliability of forensic science, and I read NewScientist, Chemistry Review and am a member of Chemnet, which is like the teenage chemistry section of the Royal Society of Chemistry lol

Shall I bother applying, as Imperial is my favourite University, but I don't want to waste an application on something that they might automatically reject me on

Thanks

Hello there!

I haven't found a thread for those of us who plan to apply for 2012 yet, so I thought I'd create one. It is, of course, still early days yet (though last years applicant thread was created in May...)!

Discuss courses, AS results, pre-application anxiety, conditional offer anxiety, post-exam anxiety, cakes () etc.

I've just started to compile a list of applicants, before I lose track of everyone.

If you want to be on "The List" quote this post with:

Username: [your username]
Subject: [the subject you're applying for]

(If you do change your mind and want to be taken off "The List", let me know!)

White space! :P

2012 List of Applicants for Entry!

According to UCAS the grades for chemistry have gone up to A*AA, so I'm not sure if Imperial have updated their website

I think you may still have a chance as you would only be one grade below the requirement and I can see from your grades that it is possible for you to pull it up to AAA. They will also see this. As you get 5 choices, I think it is always worth putting down one ambitious choice. It won't be a waste, because you will regret not applying as then you will always be wondering "what if...?", especially if your final A level grades are top notch.

The UCAS page says that the course requirements are A*AA-AAA, while the Imperial website says AAA.

Your grades are probably very precarious to be honest, and there will most likely be people applying with straight A's, or at least an A in chemistry. Can't you at least beg your school to predict you an A in chemistry?

Nevertheless, it never hurts to try - though you should make Imperial you top, 'aspirational' choice. Given a winning personal statement that displays your passion for chemistry, and a good reference, you are still in with a chance!

Hey, thanks for the replies! And I've talked to my chemistry teacher, who says that she can't at the moment, but that after I properly come back to college next week, that I should talk to the head of department (scary stuff :s-smilie: ) lol

Oh, and I got my biology predicted grade of A to, so my predicted grades are AAAB ?
Which is annoying because if one of the As were chemistry, I wouldn't have any problem in the first place!

Anyway, if that new info, what do you guys think I should do?
thanks a lot btw
