    Getting into foundation medicine..
Got my AS results today, and not happy at all!

    Chemistry - B
    Maths - B
Psychology - B (1 mark off an A which im absolutely gutted about )
    Biology - C .... FML

Well, I know that my chances of gettin into medicine normally are slim, even though I will be gettin predictions of aaab....so i've been looking into foundation medicine courses, and can probably apply to southampton, nottingham and UEA.

I was just wondering how competitive these courses are, and whether I can get into them?

    Btw, I got 710 in my UKCAT, and got 2 A*'s, 3 A's and 4 B's at GCSE.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't worry too much. From what i have learned, universities don't particularly look at your As grades but rather your predicted A2 grades. AAAB is very good in my opinion, and so that along side your 710 in the ukcat (which is very good also), you may stand a good chance of getting in without having to do a foundation course.

    Foundation year for Medicine
Hey guys, I got my grades today and got ABBB. The Bs being in Biology, Chemistry and English.
I've already decided to reapply hoping Peninsula and Brighton and Sussex will consider me as an re-applicant but if it's the case they won't (which I think is highly likely) then I am thinking of applying for the foundation years.
So far I think I'm eligible for UEA, Manchester and Southampton. The A Level entry requirements for UEA is BBB and Southampton is BCC. What I'm wondering about is if these requirements are the minimum or the maximum. Would they not consider me as I have higher grades than they require?
If any of you could help out that would be great. Thank you.

I think the standard entry grades are AAB for Manchester (possibly less with a good interview etc) but I'm not sure you will be eligible if you have A level chemistry

    Foundation Medicine or GEM?
    Hey guys,

I got my results yesterday and they satisfied my offers from UCL and St. Andrews. The offer from St. Andrews was for Foundation Medicine while the one from UCL was for Biomed. I'm really confused which one to choose from those two. I'm dying to read Medicine but apparently, I was not good enough to get a place this year. I want to go to UCL and then apply for GEM later as a graduate, but some ppl say that I should go with St. Andrews with lower risk. I really need some advices. If anyone could help, that would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

Hey, with a 710 in UKCAT I would say you have a very high chance of getting and interview to medicine at unis who look at UKCAT. Echoing what bssjonny said, unis don't focus on your AS grades much at all but rather on your GCSEs and UKCAT and PS and work experience and as you will be predicted AAAB I would say go for all medicine courses instead of foundation courses as you are more likely to get interviews for the 5 year course rather than 6 year one.
My AS grades were AAABC and I got 4 straight rejections because my UKCAT was only 625 and my GCSEs weren't particuarly high either (I got 9 As and 3 Bs). While one of the other medics got BBCDE for AS and got 4 interviews and 2 offers based solely on his high UKCAT of 720.

    Hopefully this helps you out!

Edit: Also I don't think you're allowed to apply most foundation courses without complete A levels not just AS.

Where possible, students must fulfil at least one criteria from group a) and at least one criteria from Group b).

If you are unsure whether you meet any of the criteria for Group a), then providing you meet at least two criteria from Group B, your application will be considered. Careful consideration is given to all applications.

    Group a)

Attending a school or college without a tradition of high academic achievement.
Living in a deprived home location.

    Group b)

Being a refugee or in care.
Being a first generation entrant to higher education.
Being in receipt of means-tested benefit showing a household income of no more than £33,000.
Having special reasons for being based in the East Midlands.
    Experiencing other disadvantages.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Does living in a deprived home location include living in a council house?

    Widening access courses for medicine
Hi, recently I got BBB in my A levels which were Chemistry, Biology and Maths, I applied to medicine this year for the 5 year courses but did not get any offers, I was hoping to get AAA take a gap year then re-apply but I believe this is no longer an option so I'm wondering If i would be able to apply to the 6 year widening access courses for 2012 entry.
I meet the eligibility criteria for Southampton, East anglia and Nottingham but I'm not sure whether I should apply since I have science A-levels, I'd also like to resit a few exams this year since I was very close to A's only a few UMS off in my subjects, would I stand a reasonable chance assuming my PS and UKCAT are good?
I am extremely motivated to do medicine and I will not quit until I've exhausted all my options.

Re: Medical School Foundation & Widening Access Courses Questions & Advice Megathread
I am applying for a GEM programme for next year and was wondering whether it is worth doing an Access to Science course this year.

I am a mature student with a law background and an MA but have not studied Sciences since GCSE. I was thinking that perhaps the Med Schools may look favourably upon my enthusiasm to study for it? Or perhaps I am better off gaining work experience related to Medicine?

    Please advise.

    Re: King's EMDP 2012
    Hi

I'll be applying as soon as I find out whether or not I am eligible, fingers crossed.

    GCSE: 3 As, 8 Bs
    AS: ABBB
    A2 Prediction: AAAb
Great work experience, reference and personal statement.
    Haven't sat UKCAT yet.

What do you think my chances of getting an interview are?
