Re: Need any help with AQA Sociology? from 'A' grade A-level student!Yeah I think I'll start my notes(Original post by Rachel_Leah)
It honestly depends on how you revise. Personally, I copied up notes from each lesson that I had and made sure all the topics were neatly organised, so by the time the course was finished I had done all my notes for revision, aided from two textbooks and lessons. This mean that from when I broke up in December I had all my revision materials ready to revise from and all I had to do was sit there and learn it! So I'm guessing if you do it that way you would have at least three weeks of solid revision, xx
Thanks for good advice xxx -

Start with a clear introducation, and explain in the introduction what you're going to say in the essay (my teacher said it's important to show you're confident with what you're writing and also if you get stuck you can remember what you were going to write about, and also if you run out of time it shows what points you were going to make). Then outline the topic/theory you're talking about. Then contrast that with other theories, say why they disagree with the previous theories and what the believe instead. Then conclude by briefly summing up (refer back to the question to show that you've clierly answered the question and that all the points you've made are relevant).
My teachers told us to always keep refering to the question. For example, for every point you've made you have to say how it's relevant to the question, otherwise you'll get little marks for including it.
Hope that helps? If there's a specific question you want help with you can ask me (although I did idfferent modulse; Culture & Identity, Education, Media and Crime & Deviance). -
Re: Need any help with AQA Sociology? from 'A' grade A-level student!hey,(Original post by Rachel_Leah)
Hey everyone, I recently got awarded an A (5 marks off an A*!) in my Sociology A-level, and I know that at times it can be difficult, confusing, and people don't really know where the hell to start in their revision!
I took Families and Households, Education, Beliefs in Society and Crime and Deviance, along with the research and theory involved! If anybody has any questions, do not hesitate to ask as I really enjoyed the course and would be happy to help x
Do you have any tips concerning the part of the specification about: "Theories of ideology and theories of science"? -

Re: Need any help with AQA Sociology? from 'A' grade A-level student!
What's the best way to revise and write essays for the unit 4 exam? Reading through and making sure you understand? Or highlighting key points and memorising them..etc. I get As in Psychology and get really high marks in my essays and find it really easy to revise (just by writing out all the points and reading them over every day) but when it comes to Sociology, which i suppose is fairly similar, i get completely stuck on how to write the essays and how to revise for it. PLEASE HELP.

I'm resitting the familes and households paper in January 2012.
I've looked at past papers for this resit and in the past paper January 2011 there's a question that is "Assess the view that the modern family has become more child-centred" In the mark scheme it said mention names like: Beck, Jencks, Gattrell, Hockey and James, Madge, Mayall, Pilcher, Postman, Shorter, Aries
I don't know the studies/what they say about childhood being child-centred. So, would it be possible to tell me what these names say about childhood being child-centred? PLEASE!
I don't have much notes on childhood being child-centred. I tried looking in my textbooks to see if I could find the names the mark scheme mentioned, but the only names i could find was Aries and Postman.
Thank you! -

This would be great help. How did you revise the theories and concepts? I'm struggling to get them all into my head as there is so many people who said what, I also do not understand Marxism and the boat anology thing. That boat annoys me so much... if you got taught a different way basically the boat thing was how the bottom of it the super structure determines the infrastructure? or something like that, see what I mean.. I'm crap!!! Also, I'm re-sitting families and households to get myself a B, as I was on a C. Any tips into how to get a better mark? (Essay tips etc.)
Thank you xxx -
