professional training year at Surrey University
I'm starting at surrey in september of this year, for a three year course. I vaguely remember hearing that even if the course you applied for is a 3 year course, you can change to the 4 year course (incl. the training year), after coming to the university. Is that right, as if so I would definitely want to change my course to 4 years. Also, how would this affect student finance? Would we just change the duration of the couse on the online application once we're there?
    Thank you!

Changing your course pathway from non-placement to placement is as easy as sending the faculty admin an email. At least, that's the case in the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences (FEPS).

I was always down to do a placement year though so I don't know about the SLC side of things. I'd imagine it's just a case of updating your course details though.

Usually this is covered in one of your induction sessions in Freshers week in more detail.

    EDIT: Welcome to Surrey!

Pretty sure from what I remember, that being 'on' a 3 year or a 4 year course (Assuming a Bachelors without/with placement year) was basically your intent and that everyone is assumed to be on a 3 year course, at least for courses where a placement is not mandatory (that's how it was for my course, even though a good number go on placement). It changes when you actually get a confirmed placement, but don't worry it shouldn't be any hassle, just talk to them when you are there or send them an email
