Hey guys! I apologise for lurking and things, but I'm currently in my first year at Uni of Surrey doing the BMus in Music! I'm a four year but there's only few differences between that and the three year in terms of modules. Anyway, feel free to PM me or chat on here if you want to know more about the course and uni! Seems like there's more Surrey applicants on here which is epic?

Also applied to Hudds, LCM, and Liverpool in the past so if anyone wants interview/audition advice I can help in some way too!
I remember you from the 2011 thread :P

Thinking of applying to LIPA and/or Huddersfield, any advice? (Read back a few pages for my posts on LIPA and my current situation)

JUST seen this post! Same here and we're doing Strauss, Takemitsu and something else I can't remember. I CAN'T STAND THE MACMILLAN! Everyone else in my class likes it though and think it's 'unique' and they like to feel unsettled. WTH!? :L
Its rubbish isn't it! Hey, I got a letter from Birmingham yesterday inviting me to interview on the 7th Dec! Did you apply there?? x

No doubt that person you know is Mlcy Frme (I don't want to say his name on this for data protection reasons, if you're not sure about who I'm on about message me). Where did you hear that Manchester are giving out music interviews at the moment? Yeh Durham, Bristol and Edinburgh seem the most popular unis for music atm....imaging that a person you know over The Student Room and you end up as the same uni as them : ) Btw which Durham university did you apply to?
Yeah, he's the only cam. music applicant last year but knew quite a lot of others who got in from belfast (mostly arts people)
Well, she got a music interview invitation from manchester yesterday so that's how I know :P#
I applied to St. John's in durham, where did you?

Maybe it was end of March then - I just know they leave it as long as possible! I've applied to St John's, sent off my written work last week - it was a bit weird filling out the form as I'm on a gap year at the moment but I wrote the essay in October...

Also I *wish* I could believe that Cambridge wasn't the 'be all and end all' - I did right up until I opened my rejection letter last year...
St. John's seems quite a competitive music-ey college (but I suppose, all colleges are difficult to get into these days... ) Did you apply to the same college last year?
Aww, hard luck, I know I would have felt quite disappointed too, is Cambridge the only uni you would ever go to?

Huddersfield is really nice I didn't apply for there in the end but I went to an open day (I didn't really like the feel of the place, I couldn't see myself being/living there, but I know plenty of people doing Music there who love it!) and the facilities are brilliant, really modern. They balance an academic programme with performance modules at conservatoire standard, so I think it's definitely a good choice to pick, you only have to audition if you want to do performance too

Oh and... I got an offer from Nottingham today yay!

No, last year I applied to Clare for English. I actually had a very carefully thought-out plan behind choosing John's: They have (relatively speaking) a LOT of places for music (5-7), both good tactically and nice to have a big class for tutorials, also means they have their own DOS unlike some smaller colleges. It's central and absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The DOS specialises in 18th and 19th Italian opera - that's what I want to do professionally and I'm spending 4 months in Italy for my gap year. They are VERY nice about not needing to be a first study pianist at all or have exceptional keyboard skills on the website. I know it's a risk for a female singer to go for John's because of all the choral applicants it attracts but it just seemed like it was SO right for me! (Oh and also, Douglas Adams was an alumnus and they have a prize for humorous writing in his name every year!)

Obviously if I don't get into Cambridge this year I'd be happy to go anywhere on my list. Part of it was that I knew I hadn't worked nearly hard enough for my interview (mainly because I didn't like my subject enough) so I knew I could do better. Also I didn't receive my rejection in the best frame of mind for a number of reasons but it made me feel totally worthless and so giving it another go was a very personal thing I knew I had to try. I couldn't believe that I was doing the same thing that I'd scoffed at people doing last year, but changing subjects and colleges and going to Italy, it's actually quite a good thing! (If I can get in, of course!)

Oh I wonder how long it will be until I hear word from Manchester than? I applied for Collingwood College, Durham. St. John's looked too old for me and I didn't like the vibe I got off it in comparison to Collingwood.

St. John's does look really good and with more places, better chance haha! Emmanuel isn't too bad (but usually only 3-4 places...) I'm getting a bit worried that my piano skills wouldn't be high enough atm, especially with that horrible compulsory 1st year aural + keyboard module... Awk, I hope it works out well for you, especially as it seems the ideal college for you

Yeah, some people are saying to me that St. John's is a bit quieter and more coservative than other colleges but it looks great and I wanted a music-ey college with a great choir if I was going to go there, is Collingwood a modern college?

My piano skills aren't great at all! At the summer school we had a harmony lecture workshop and it was brilliant though (:

Okay I've been lurking around this thread for a while because I may be a future Cambridge music applicant, and I'm trying to get all the information I can from my lovely home half way round the world Where are these figures for numbers of places coming from? My googling isn't returning many helpful results

Okay I think I've finally decided...

    Going to apply to:
    Leeds College of Music
    Aberdeen
    Goldsmiths, UoL
    Middlesex

Then leave the 5th space blank. If I get two or more achievable offers, I'll apply to Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, if I get less than two, I'll apply to Huddersfield.

Should be sent off by Friday *fingers crossed*

Well, you aren't alone about being great at piano - trying to work really hard at it this year though, no matter where I go to for uni... The summer scheme sounds really good, what else did you do there? I like the theory side of things, especially harmony, figured bass, composition (at times...) but I still think that 1st year keyboard/aural module will be really difficult for me - really annoying that we don't get any choice in terms of modules in 1st year...

Same! We did so much there, we had 4 lectures/workshops/seminars a day covering Gamelan, Renaissance singing, Music and Science, Jazz and Classical, Compostion... so much! It was a brilliant week (: yeah, I'd love to have some choice in the first year Quite glad Cam. isn't really be all and end all for me :P

Congrats When did you apply? I haven't heard from Bristol yet - or anything from Bath Spa, not even an acknowledgement, getting slightly anxious!
