I applied last year. Didn't get what I wanted so reapplying. I'm going for UCAS and CUKAS.

On UCAS my most likely 5 are:
    University of Aberdeen
    Leeds College of Music
    Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts
    Middlesex University
    Kingston University

First 3 are places I'd ideally want to go, the other 2 are more of backups. All courses are the standard music ones except Leeds College of Music which will be the popular music course.

    On CUKAS:
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance
    Royal Scottish Conservatoire
Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama
    Birmingham Conservatoire
    Royal Northern College of Music

All of those are the jazz courses except for RNCM where I've applied for a 2 year foundation degree session musician course.

    Hey y'all,

Composition applicant here for BMus starting 2012.

Through CUKAS, applying to Royal College of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire and Royal Northern College of Music.
Then applying to Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama externally.

Then through UCAS (all W300 & W302), Birmingham, Bristol, York, Sheffield & one more not sure yet. But ideally I want to go read composition.

Any other composers out there? I am yet to know of another applying similarly to me!

I'm a performer but, I like your choices I've got Bristol and Sheffield on my list too!
Infact thinking about it more, I really like Sheffield. Did you go to one of the open days? I especially like their 'sound cube' building!

Oh I see Well, do you reckon all my options are a bit competitive? The lowest ones being York and Sheffield with ABB...?
    I'm predicted A/A*s but still..
I was in the same situation to you, all of my potential firm places were ABB (Bristol, York, Sheffield)... but i got rejected from Bristol (after they had my application for 6 months.... grrrrr :x )

I applied to Lancaster as a backup (BBB)

I also applied to Oxford (Exeter College ) which is worth doing... if in doubt, give it a go, because you might just get in :yep: or at least get to the interview stage. i personally feel i learnt alot during the interview/essay writing stage for Oxford, although i didn't get an offer

but I am going to York :woo:

So... in response to your question, you might want to have a backup option that you liked the look of. there's no point in applying somewhere you don't like/can't see yourself going!

also, my firm and insurance (York and Sheffield) were the same grade requirements, but York specified an A in Music and excluding General studies. For Sheffield, I needed ABB including Music and Psychology, but they didn't mind what the A was in/what I got in Drama/General, so it's worth putting down another type of option that doesn't specify what grade you get in Music.... if that makes sense

Could anyone tell me the entry requirements for Trinity laban? I'm trying to get it up on their site but it's not opening... Grr. I know most music conservatoires ask for two passes at A-Level but I just wanted to check =)

I see I have some competition. I'm applying for composition at all the conservatoires minus leeds. No idea if i'm good enough, performance wise = not yet but who knows for composition... Might as well give it a shot! Also applying through UKAS but for chemistry I love both so i thought that since i have the option to, i should. My head of sixth form wasn't very encouraging and thinks i'm not really what they're looking for even though she's never heard any of my pieces... She went on about how all her friends by the time she was my age at won loads of competitions and had their pieces played all over the place... not everybody can win these things and not everyone can get their pieces played!!!
    it felt like this: :bricks:

    How are we all doing?

I sent my CUKAS application off last week. Only applied to Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Royal Welsh College. I didn't realise you had to pay for auditions upfront.

Should send my UCAS off by friday!

Anyone else done their CUKAS references? I'm not entirely sure what to do...

Should I print off the forms, get the teachers/referees to fill them in, then send them to the colleges through the post? I can't find a specific address to send mine to....

I’m re-applying for music this year having missed my offer last time

    I’m thinking of applying to:
    York (first choice)
    Bristol
    Royal Holloway
    Lancaster
    Huddersfield

Thought I’d keep wide spread of typical offers (everything from AAB to a B and 300 points) just to be on the safe side as my A levels are pretty poor...

I had exactly the same from Bristol last year! I was beginning to wonder whether there actually was a university there
