Exeter Accommodation Questions Thread
Welcome to the University of Exeter forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from what it is like to be in Teletubby Land to walking up Cardiac Hill, from being at a campus university to the shopping.

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadThanks for your reply. To be honest I'm pretty sure I have a minor OCD although I wasn't actually diagnosed. I was warned to get it diagnosed but I don't think there's a need of it anyway. But still I rather live in a clean surrounding. Zzz basically I'll be choosing the former one. I guess there might be other ways to socialise. x_X(Original post by Persipan)
Which would you find more difficult: living alone in a studio, so maybe having to make more of an effort to socialise; or sharing a kitchen with other people (which will probably be messy at least some of the time)? Do you have your-actual, diagnosed OCD, or are you just saying that you'd rather live in a tidy environment? I do know someone with OCD who found living in a flat a bit hard work sometimes, and living in a studio worked better for them, but the balance really depends on how you'll feel either way. -
Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadMaybe this is the accommodation open to current students..?(Original post by S.Pink)
Just filling in my accommodation application and its only giving me two options and only self catered - this isnt a probelm as I want self catered but not all the residences are listed either... Anyone else done this yet?
Because it does say that accommodation for new students opens on the 16th April
EDIT: Don't know if you're a PCMD student or not but we only get two options that are self catered: Rowancroft and Rowancroft Mews.Last edited by FunsizedKarateGeek; 15-04-2012 at 18:30. -
Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadIt's not supposed to be open until tomorrow, so if you can access it now, it's probably as the wrong type of student (e.g. it's probably showing you what'a available to returning students, not new students). I'd wait until it's open properly and see how it looks then.(Original post by S.Pink)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions Thread
If you're looking for decent private/student accommodation that's all inclusive and reasonably priced then consider Exeter Trust House on Blackboy Road which is conveniently located for the St Luke's Campus, Medical School, City Centre and a short walk about 15 minutes from Streatham campus or quicker if you cycle. There's also a friendly black and white cat who lives in the housing block opposite who's always resting on the wall inside the Trust House yard so if ever you're feeling down and sad go and say hello to him and he'll be happy to shower you with meows, purrs and rubs as long as you give him strokes and cuddles in return ^^

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadYeah the accommodation PCMD hands out is a little drab tbh even though it is spitting distance from Wonford, Heavitree and St Luke's but Exeter Trust House where I used to haunt was pretty close by or a short pleasant walk. The park nearby was great too. Nice area.(Original post by FunsizedKarateGeek)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadThank you for your help(Original post by Persipan)
Really depends on what people's choices are, and what everyone else's choices are!
The one thing I'd say in this case is, the places you're proposing to put are all relatively small (there's, what, 60-something single standard rooms in those if you add them all together; and then 70-something people in twins?) Obviously not everyone will apply for there, but given that it's not a huge number of rooms overall (and the website says they get three applications per room), I wouldn't absolutely set your heart on getting what you're after.
I've just sent off my application, so fingers crossed! The only thing is that we have to wait until August to find out what we have (that's presuming we get in...

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions Thread
sent off my application this morning for lafrowda, st germans and rowe house ensuite self catered *
some of the questions were abit weird though i.e. "do you want to be with quiet people?" or something to that effect.. also whether you wanted to be in a mixed or single sex halls? was slightly awkward choosing especially with my mum looking over my shoulder haha
anyone else applied for any of these
?

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions Thread
Filling out application now, put Lafrowda, Rowe House and St. Germans
Bit worried as judging from the discussions on tsr these all seem like popular choices!
Not sure what to put for the "Which factor is more important: cost, standard of residence, contract length, location of residence, others I am living with..." I want to put location but cost is a big issue... Also, it lets you tick more than one but obviously the question implies they want you to pick one, has anyone been cheeky and chosen more than one?
EDIT: Never mind, chose Location!Last edited by 11flon; 16-04-2012 at 16:43. -
Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions Thread
GUYS: any advice would be appreciated. I'm trying to decide what accommodation to go for and I can't decide between en-suite and non en-suite. Obviously non en-suite is cheaper and my budget isn't exactly unlimited, but I really hate the idea of not having my own toilet.
I hate to sound like a massive prude but is it not REALLY awkward having to share toilets with people you're not related to? (that prob sounds really stupid butttttt oh well)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadIt's really NOT awkward having to share a bathroom. And they get cleaned twice a week, so are pretty clean all the time. I shared two toilets and a shower between 12 people in the old Lafrowda. Never once had an issue with mess or having to wait ages.(Original post by pellejema)

think Lafrowda is going to be my first choice. Do you have a mixed sex flat btw?

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadI graduated in 2010 so as I said, I lived in the very old standard Lafrowda. However yes I think the flats are mixed sex unless you request otherwise. I loved Lafrowda, it was great fun(Original post by pellejema)
