No it's really not that bad. Even though those rooms are "standard", they were in fact refurbished and enhanced a few years ago, so they're in pretty good condition, compared to the old Lafrowda blocks I stayed in in 2007, which are no longer standing by the way, before you start panicking.(Original post by ssf)
Hello! Got an offer too, Lafrowda block E. It's a single standard, and after i've made my application, I was told that though en-suite rooms were great in Lafrowda, standards really weren't, especially bathrooms. Now i don't know if i should take it. I'm not really picky, so i'd just like to know if it's that bad. Some feedback please ?
All of the Lafrowda blocks are fairly nice now...standard just means without ensuite.

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions Thread
Ok, so not strictly Exeter accommodation... but accommodation in Exeter... what's New Bridge Street like? There's a room I'm interested in on that street, I've used streetview on Google maps and it looks to be quite busy (which isn't a problem)... is it close to walk to uni, good location etc.? Any help much appreciated!

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadNew Bridge Street is right at the bottom of Fore Street, which is a fairly long hill leading up to the High Street. The Uni is on the other end of the High Street, so it will be about a 40-45 minute walk to the University from there, depending on which part you are going to, and mostly uphill.(Original post by Elle408)

If I were you, I wouldn't take a room there, because you're basically in Exeter St Thomas, which is not a studenty area at all, students hardly ever venture down there apart from to go to the Quay maybe, and you're at the wrong end of the town for all the student night life.
In terms of area, I would look at Heavitree/Mount Pleasant (Pinhoe Road, Monks Road area) if I were you. Much more student friendly and easier to get to the University. -
Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadThank you so much for that! The room looked lovely but I'd rather not have a 45 min uphill walk to lectures! I'll scout around the areas you suggested, thank you!(Original post by sophisticated)

Holland Hall Block F?
Hi

I've received my accommodation offer and got my 3rd choice (Holland Hall), which I'm slightly upset about. I'm in block F but I've read that this is with the dining room/laundry facilities/reception and doesn't seem to be very big.
Could anyone tell me a bit more about the atmosphere in this block? What the rooms are like, if being in the same place as the dining area and the laundry is a problem (smells, noise, etc)?
I could be wrong but I'm under the impression that this is where the studios are placed as well and it also seems quite separated from the rest of the blocks...
Basically, I'd really appreciate if anyone could tell me a bit about block F. -
If you really didn't want Holland Hall why did you put it down? There are loads of other options! Why not email the accommodation department and ask them for another accommodation or block?(Original post by pitchaikovskys)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadMy friend used to live in New Bridge Street - she always had people knocking on the door because they'd mistaken her flat for the brothel down the road...(Original post by Elle408)

Re: Holland Hall Block F?The studios in Holland aren't all in one place; they're sort of dotted around. (If you stand in the quad, you can see where they are 'cos they're the ones with balconies.)(Original post by pitchaikovskys)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadDon't think that would work(Original post by sophisticated)

the impression I got was the it was essentially the same as the other blocks, the ground floor is the big dining hall though, and laudry facilities, though I didn't see those. Its on the right side of the circle for the good view over the valley/car park, and the rooms are pretty much standard and the same all over. There might be fewer people in the block so you might get to know people better.(Original post by pitchaikovskys)

Also, if its raining and you want to go to breakfast in your pajamas.... result? -
Why wouldn't it work? There's no harm in trying is there...(Original post by mathsmusicfrench)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadWell all of the info seems to say that if you reject the offer you get then you won't get anohter one. Agreed no harm in trying, but I think its such a massive effort to assign everybody accomodation that they have enough of a job to do it once and therefore aren't prepared to go and do it again, I mean otherwise everyone would ask to change to their first preference, surely?(Original post by sophisticated)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadWell now you're just being obtuse. I'm not suggesting that they ask to change to their first preference as obviously they have already been let down on that one, but there's no harm in asking for another block in Holland or an entirely different hall to any of their other choices, perhaps a less popular one.(Original post by mathsmusicfrench)

Any road, since my initial post on this, other people on here have said there's no difference between that block and any other, so it sounds like theres nothing to be concerned about anyway. -
Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadAlright, calm down. I'm sorry if you feel I'm being obtuse, all I said was that I don't think that would work. I've a right to think that, and express that thought - it wasn't a personal attack on your suggestion. I simply don't think its possible to change. Maybe I'm wrong.(Original post by sophisticated)

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadThanks so much! You're right about it probably being better as it's a smaller block so I will get to know people more than if I was living in block E (which I think is the biggest one).(Original post by mathsmusicfrench)

Definitely a result!

Re: Exeter Accommodation Questions ThreadYou're right, there's no harm in trying, but I didn't want to run the risk of not having anywhere to stay next year. I've told myself that halls are what you make of it anyway and it's not like Holland is the worst place to live.(Original post by sophisticated)

Thank you to everyone who responded, though
I'm feeling much more reassured.
